Video: New Velocity 2X PS4 / PS Vita Trailer Update: So Far, So Good

50°
22w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden is here with a new Velocity 2X PS4 / PS Vita trailer update which he states is coming along so far, so good!

To quote: Hi folks. Today I'm here to reveal a brand new video showing alpha footage of Velocity 2X; to talk through some of the things we've been working towards; and to outline what we're going to be adding next!

First, the video:

It's starting to look the part, but there's still a lot to do. The major thing left to do is improve the animation on the player character Lt. Kai Tana. We're working on that right now.

The art style

One of the major influences for Velocity 2X was the art style of Flashback on the Amiga. For those of you too young to have played Flashback (poor you, play the original!), it was a stunning visual achievement, using rotoscoped animation and a simple yet stylish art style to create a highly atmospheric experience. 12-year-old me fell in love with it.

Artistically speaking, we wanted Velocity 2X to be the spiritual successor to Flashback (and indeed Another World), and also to create a level of atmosphere and production value that is rarely seen in 2D games.

34w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden announced today that Velocity Ultra is out today on PlayStation 3.

To quote: Hello folks! I'm excited to say that the multiple award-winning Velocity Ultra is available today on the mighty PlayStation 3 for just $7.49 $9.99!

At full 1080p 60fps, it's a hypnotic experience playing on a big TV, and gives the awesome soundtrack produced by [Register or Login to view links] of Killzone fame a chance to shine too!

Developed and published by the talented team at Curve Studios, Velocity Ultra on PS3 is a perfect conversion that feels great on DualShock 3.

Me confirming that the PS3 version is indeed awesome. What, you've never heard of it?

Those of you not familiar with Velocity Ultra should know that it combines shoot 'em-up action, speed runs and cunning spatial puzzles in a way never seen before, and this combination of clever mechanics and no nonsense fun delighted pretty much everyone that came into contact with it on PS Vita.

So we're incredibly excited that Velocity Ultra is now a full PS3 title which includes perhaps (actually, definitely) the best titled platinum trophy ever: 'Show Thumb Respect.'

Teleporting ahead... With a host of 9/10 review scores from the likes of Edge Magazine...

Video: Velocity 2X on PS4: Learning From Gamers Like You

50°
39w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden posted up a video today showcasing Velocity 2X on PS4 which outlines how the team leans from their audience of fellow gamers.

To quote: Hey folks. We had such a good time showcasing Velocity 2X at the Eurogamer Expo, we'd like to share our experience with you!

First of all, we managed to find the courage to jump on stage to talk about Velocity 2X in a Developer Session. For those who missed it, we talked about how we've approached making a PS Minis game desirable for PS4.

Velocity 2X takes everything that worked in Velocity Ultra and applies it to a side-scrolling platformer. That's right - in Velocity 2X you can get out of your ship to run around on foot.

You can also teledash through obstacles and throw a personal teleporter to reach high ledges and solve puzzles.

We've also revealed the new enemy in the series: the evil Vokh. They're massive, fast, and tricky to defeat because of their advanced shield technology. However, as you'll see from the video below, Kai's teledash creates a spacetime warp that disrupts their shield temporarily, allowing you to get some cheeky shots from behind! Watch some pre-alpha platforming gameplay here:
