We [Register or Login to view links] that the original Velocity was going to delight and surprise people because we'd added something new, interesting and exciting to the shoot 'em-up genre.

This is really important for achieving critical word-of-mouth and great review scores, and as a small studio of just three people at the time, innovation and surprise was our ticket to earning support from PlayStation.

TWICE THE TWITCHY FUN

When it came to designing the sequel, we knew we couldn't rest on our laurels, and had to keep the surprises coming.

The first idea for the sequel was to include platforming, as that would provide stable ground to expand upon the cool new features introduced by the first game, and it would drive interest for the game once...

Video: FuturLab Announces Velocity 2X is Out Today on PS4, PS Vita

100°
15w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden announced that Velocity 2X is out today on PS4 and PS Vita platforms with a launch trailer video below!

To quote: Hey folks, I'm back for one last hype for Velocity 2X launch day.

A few weeks ago I came on here and told you all that I believed Velocity 2X was a [Register or Login to view links] winner. Today I'm going to explain precisely why I believe that is the case!

For anyone that hasn't seen the trailer yet:

INNOVATION

First of all, people love something novel and exciting to get their teeth into, so we've made sure 2X has plenty of firsts.

Having two genres in one expands the speedy gameplay format in a meaningful way, pushing your skills and confidence with the teleportation controls in many different directions.

Take on the Vokh in race-tuned space combat... then dock your ship and continue the fight on foot!

Whilst combining two genres into one is the main attraction, it's not the only one, as there are many other unique ideas along the way, including the ability to fly your ship inside a boss to melt its innards...

FuturLab Details the Explosions of Velocity 2X on PS4 and PS Vita

16w ago - FuturLab Technical Director Hussain Sheikh shares details today of the explosions in Velocity 2X on PS4 and PS Vita.

To quote: Hello beautiful people! Hussain Sheikh, Technical Director from FuturLab back again to talk juice. Explosion juice! Get a cuppa, this is a big one!

The Fateful Day

It was just another morning at FuturLab, I had just sat down at my desk, waiting for my PC to boot up, hot cup of coffee in my hand. I was getting ready to rock, when James walked over with a serious look on his face: "Need to talk to you man... In the boardroom!"

You know that look, it's the "I mean business" look. I had never seen James like that before, so I thought I must've done something wrong.

A bit concerned something bad was going to happen, I went into the meeting room and James said: "Sit down buddy, I need to show you something."

"Oh dear, here it comes!" I thought. But then he started drawing this graph on the notepad:

Now that WAS bad, just not the kind of bad I'd anticipated. But in the world of graphs making any sense at all; this was brutal.

Then James started explaining it to me. Most of his explanation was pretty much like the graph, so I tuned it out, though I do remember imagining the graph he actually wanted...
