Video: Hideo Kojima Talks Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes on PS4

53w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman made available a video today while talking to Hideo Kojima about Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes on PS4.

To quote: Set after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker but before those of the upcoming MGS5: The Phantom Pain, MGS5: Ground Zeroes gives the player total control over how, where, and when to execute espionage-focused operations.

Playing as Snake, aka Big Boss, players will sneak into enemy encampments, stalk targets, interrogate enemy agents, and recover secret intel while piecing together the game's story mission by mission. The result is an open, fluid adventure that will play out a little differently each time.

On PS4, Kojima's proprietary FOX Engine coats the game in a convincing layer of next-gen grit. Eerily lifelike character animations bring new punch to the game's CQC, while a new global lighting system means that day and night pass realistically, complete with changes to guard behavior and visibility.

Engine brings a host of other benefits, including an upgraded weapon physics system that accounts for bullet drop. This will be a profound change for fans of the tranquilizer gun and other low-powered projectile weapons, which now require far more finesse to use at extreme distances.

Video: Battlefield 4 PS4: DICE Talks Commanders on PlayStation 4

54w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman shared a PS4 video today and discussed Battlefield 4 Commanders on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: With PS4's North American launch just days away, we wanted to provide a quick update on our experiences with Battlefield 4 and show off our new interview with DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson - watch it below.

On the PS4 multiplayer side, Battlefield 4 boasts an impressive visual presentation, rendering atmospheric lighting and lavish weather effects you won't see on the PS3 version. The game's visual variety is a major strength: I waged war across a startling array of environments, from Flood Zone's waterlogged alleyways to Golmud Railway's dazzling blue skies and emerald fields.

Throughout it all, the multiplayer side zoomed along at or near 60 frames per second, giving the game a brisk, responsive feel that gives the game's infantry combat a huge shot in the arm.

Of course, vehicular combat is a huge part of Battlefield's appeal, and BF4's jets, tanks, jeeps, and boats don't disappoint. The amphibious combat is particularly interesting, with BF4's new physics-based wave model adding a new strategic wrinkle to combat on the high seas. With up to 64 players...

91w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill shared an interview with Naughty Dog today, who talks about their recent Uncharted 3 PS3 Multiplayer free-to-play decision.

To quote: Naughty Dog, purveyors of fine action-adventure games including the upcoming survival action game The Last of Us, made a bold move yesterday.

They decided to make the core multiplayer component of their most recent game, the globetrotting epic Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, free.

In a world of microtransactions and freemium stigmas, gamers naturally had questions about this decision. Why [Register or Login to view links]? How will this affect the game's community?

We caught up with Uncharted 3 Game Director Justin Richmond, who gave us an inside look at the company's thought process behind giving away the core multiplayer mode of one of [Register or Login to view links]'s most popular games.
PlayStation.Blog: Why Free-to-Play? What opportunities does this model present that aren't there in the more traditional one?

"Free-To-Play takes away a huge barrier that exists for many players."
