Vertex Pop: Twin-stick Shooter We Are Doomed to Hit PS4, PS Vita

50°
2w ago - Vertex Pop's Mobeen Fikree announced today that Twin-stick Shooter We Are Doomed is slated to hit both PS4 and PS Vita platforms.

To quote: Hello there! I'm Mo, founder of Vertex Pop, a tiny independent video game studio based in Toronto, Canada.

I'm really excited to introduce We Are Doomed, a twin-stick shooter where you zap polygon baddies with an insanely overpowered laserbeam. I want to tell you all about the core mechanics of the game, the unique visuals, and my plans to bring it to PS4 and PS Vita.

And I'll be showing We Are Doomed at PlayStation Experience next month, so please come by if you're attending!

The first thing you'll notice is that the player is armed with a powerful but close-range laserbeam weapon. If you want to get anywhere in We Are Doomed, you need to dive right into the action. Hanging back and picking off baddies will simply not do.

You'll also want to charge your already overpowered laserbeam into a SUPERBEAM, which is when things get a little absurd. The SUPERBEAM is a brief triumph: a beam that goes all the way across the screen, zapping everything it touches in short order. You'll want to make the most of your time with it. But remember to keep your cool, because you're still vulnerable when using it.

The entire game...

Double Eleven: PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate Out Today on PS4, PS Vita

100°
25w ago - Double Eleven Limited Chief Operating Officer Mark South announced that PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is out today on PS4 and PS Vita platforms complete with a video trailer below.

To quote: Originally, PixelJunk Shooter and Shooter 2 were made by our friends at Q-Games. As Q-Games are a very tech savvy developer (like us), Shooter was born from gameplay experimentations, using a very clever fluid simulation technology they had written.

As the gameplay evolved, so did the story. Four years after Shooter's first launch, we met the guys at Q-Games and - as fans - started talking about what this edition would be.

We ended up doing a number of cool new things in Shooter Ultimate, and with it launching today it's a good time to give you an idea of what to expect!

Exploration, Action, and Strategy

Ultimate unites PixelJunk Shooter and Shooter 2 into one continuous experience, with a host of enhancements. Take all those things as a given and let's go a little deeper...

What drives all that is a massive physics engine that features a powerful fluid dynamics system. While making your way through the campaign you'll quickly notice that the interplay between states of matter (solids, liquids, and gasses) is key to getting by.

The beginning...

PlayStation Plus: Trine 2, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, NBA 2K14 Free

100°
25w ago - Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer is here with this weeks PlayStation Plus content updates, which include Trine 2, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, and NBA 2K14 free for PS Plus members!

To quote: A rogue, a wizard and a knight are the best of friends (well, they work together at least) in Trine 2: Complete Story.

You'll either play as all three characters, rotating between them as you need their unique abilities, or you can grab a couple friends to take control of the two other heroes. Of course, you might all be too busy drooling at the art to solve any puzzles, but that's okay.

In case you missed it in the PS Plus June Preview, you'll be happy to see that there's another PS4 game free this month. PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is a combination of the well-loved twin-stick shooter games (PixelJunk Shooter and PixelJunk Shooter 2) that released on PS3.

Not only is the Ultimate version cross-buy, which means Plus members will also get the Vita version, but it includes cross-save and cross-play functionality.

Last, but not least, we've got NBA 2K14 on PlayStation 3 for you - just in time for the NBA Finals. LeBron James stars in the new Path to Greatness Mode, where you can suit up as the reigning NBA champion and develop your own future for him.

PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate Coming to PS4, PS Vita This Summer

50°
38w ago - Double Eleven Production Team Richard Snowdon announced that PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is coming to PS4 and PS Vita this Summer with details below.

To quote: All of us here at Double Eleven are excited to announce that PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is coming to PS4 and PS Vita this Summer, and we can finally start to talk about it!

PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is a twin-stick shooter that's as much about blasting things as it is about exploration, puzzle solving, and collecting things. Within Shooter Ultimate, players interact with environments that run an advanced fluid dynamics simulation. These interactions are needed to solve puzzles, overcome enemies, and progress through levels.

For those who remember the original PixelJunk Shooter games, Ultimate combines the campaigns of Shooter 1 and 2 into a single experience. It certainly doesn't stop there, as we've done a ton of work on top of that to make this the third game in the series!

So here's our list of nine things that hopefully make our PixelJunk Shooter worthy of the title "ultimate."

1. Full Visual Upgrade on PS4

When we were trying to decide what a PS4 version of Shooter should look like, we knew that it needed to remain true to that classic, razorsharp, vector-based aesthetic - which...

TxK Offers a Beginner's Guide to PS Vita's Trippy New Shooter

50°
41w ago - Llamasoft Founder Jeff Minter offers a TxK Beginner's Guide to PS Vita's trippy new shooter below today.

To quote: TxK is an arcade-style shooting game. The basic idea is simple: shoot all the enemies that arrive on each playing surface. When the surface is clear or all enemies arrive at the top, the surface explodes and you transition to the next level.

Use the left analog stick or the d-pad to move the player entity left and right (or clockwise and anticlockwise on connected surfaces). Hold down the x button to shoot. Tap the screen to smart bomb. You get one smart bomb per level. When enabled, press the R shoulder button to jump. Collect Powerups to gain score bonuses and capability upgrades.

I'd recommend starting at level 1 while learning the basics. Starting at this level enables labels on many game elements for the first few levels.

Enemies move quite slowly on early levels. Hold down x and move your ship to shoot them.

Collect Powerups by just moving your ship to intercept them as they move up the surface.

It'll be obvious when you successfully collect one!

If enemies arrive at the top don't panic. Your shots come out of the "leg" of your ship that's in the direction of its motion.

Often if you "walk" slowly towards...
