Video: Resistance: Burning Skies PS Vita Multiplayer Brings the Pain

50°
61w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has made available some new video footage today spotlighting multiplayer action in Resistance: Burning Skies for the PS Vita console.

To quote: If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, come by our community meetup tonight to go hands-on with Resistance: Burning Skies in a kill-or-be-killed multiplayer tournament!

If it's true that a shooter is only as good as its weapons, Resistance: Burning Skies is shaping up to be a delight indeed.

Take the Mule, a new double-barreled shotgun that dishes out devastating buckshot blasts and launches explosive bolts via its over-barrel crossbow. Or the ever-popular Auger, whose projectiles hungrily chew through walls to seek out warm flesh.

But my favorite gun so far is the lethal Hunter rifle, a long-range Chimeran burst-fire weapon with the ability to deploy an attack drone that you can guide towards your multiplayer foes with taps on the front touchscreen - tres sophisticated!

Playing a series of Wifi multiplayer matches in Resistance: Burning Skies in New York City last week was a valuable reminder that shooting ultra-powerful weapons just feels...

Video: PAIN AXE - Do the Move PAIN Contest Live Tomorrow

50°
198w ago - Today SCEA's Director of Network Advertising David Winding has announced that the 'Do the Move' PAIN Contest goes live tomorrow, and he has posted up a PAIN AXE video which includes contest details.

To quote: The Sony Computer Entertainment America and AXE "Do the Move" PAIN contest is on. This is your chance to earn some bragging rights for your Double Pits to Chesty combination while also putting yourself in the running for some cool Sony and AXE prizes.

The contest is simple, launch AXE's Smooth Jarvis character into any PAIN area, then execute the Double Pits to Chesty move. Then, use PAIN's in-game video capture feature to record, edit and post your combination to your YouTube account - making sure to use the tag "PAIN AXE Jarvis."

If your combination is funnier and more challenging than the rest, you could be in the running to win the grand prize - which includes a new 42" Bravia LCD HDTV to enjoy PAIN and your other favorite PS3 games on, as well as a sweet PAIN AXE Jarvis Maquette and some other cool AXE prizes.

The contest starts tomorrow, September 1st at 12:01 AM PST and runs through September 30th. Don't delay the PAIN! The first 250 contestants to earn the AXE trophy in game will also win a PAIN t-shirt. Check out www.PAINPS3.com...

Smooth Jarvis Character and New Moves Introduced in PAIN

200°
201w ago - Today SCEA's Director of Network Advertising David Winding has introduced a new "Smooth Jarvis" character and some new moves in PAIN for PlayStation 3.

To quote: Starting today Sony Computer Entertainment America and AXE will be introducing the first ever AXE-branded virtual video game character in the form of "Smooth Jarvis."

Smooth Jarvis will come enabled with two Double Pits to Chesty (DPTC) themed moves that mimic the signature motions involved in applying AXE deodorant bodyspray for men. You've seen the moves before-under both arm pits and across the chest -- now here's your chance to use them to your advantage.

Combine these moves successfully with any of the eight original standard PAIN moves and not only will you earn classic points and trophies, you'll also rack up some bonus points to help take that final score to the next level!

The fun won't end there though. Keep practicing those moves because it may just earn you bragging rights for your favorite combo as part of a four-week PAIN contest. Players will be able to use PAIN's in-game video capture feature to capture and post your favorite combination to your YouTube account, putting...

Nintendo Finally Feels the Pain as Sony Continues to Struggle

50°
203w ago - For the first time, the economic downturn appears to have caught up with the maker of the Wii, as sales and profits plunge.

Nintendo continues to operate profitably, something that can't be said for Sony, which faces the same conditions that Nintendo does, but announced another losing quarter today.

To quote: Japanese electronics companies face two significant issues when it comes to the current economy. The first is that the crisis has caused the currencies of larger, stable economies to increase in value.

The strength of the Yen has meant that overseas sales, which constitute the majority for many of these companies, are worth less; both Nintendo and Sony have been hit with this problem.

The second issue is that consumer spending has dropped, which means fewer products sold. So far, this hadn't been as severe a problem for Nintendo, but the trend finally caught up with it this quarter.

Compared to the same quarter a year ago, handheld sales dropped by nearly a million units, to just under 6 million total (over half of those were the DSi). Wii sales dropped by more than half, with only 2.23 million sold in the previous quarter. Software didn't fare as badly,...

Video: PAIN: The People's MODE for PlayStation 3

250°
210w ago - SCEA Sr. Producer Travis Williams has posted a new video today on the PlayStation Blog showcasing PAIN: The People's MODE for Sony's PlayStation 3.

To quote: If you have been keeping up with our PlayStation Network game PAIN lately you would realize we just released SORE SPOTS. This particular release has been good for us in that we really got to address some core improvements to PAIN as a whole as well as create a multiplayer mode filled with player suggestions we have had for a while now.

Some of the improvements to PAIN include:

• Revamped Menus
We've added so much content that the old menus just were not working for us anymore.

• PS3 Trophy lists inside modes
Players hated leaving modes to figure out how to get all the trophies. So now you can see those requirements inside the mode you are playing.

• PAINalympics!
It's a good exercise to browse our message boards and pick out some of the wackiest ideas we have gotten from the community. I remember one player wanted a mode where you could see how long you can go without touching the ground.

Another player wanted to swing and kick people... I could go on for...
