Ex-Sony Engineer Kazuya Sakakihara Left His Name Inside Every PS4

400°
2w ago - Today Kotaku reports that Ex-Sony Engineer Kazuya Sakakihara left his name inside every PlayStation 4 console, and requires no PS4 decryption to see it because it's written as a text string.

Below are the details, to quote: "Kazuya Sakakihara spent ten years working at Sony as a senior software engineer, helping bring both the PS3 and PS4 to the world. He's no longer at the company (parting ways in early 2013), but before he left he made sure his name quite literally lives on inside the code of pretty much every PlayStation 4.

As you can see here, in this snippet sent in by [Register or Login to view links], Sakakihara has left his name inside the PS4's HDD code. Now, coders leaving "calling cards" is nothing new, it happens all the time, but it's usually left in the "[Register or Login to view links]", the parts where humans leave human messages for other humans. And even then, it's often in the form of initials. Sakakihara's full name is lying there in the actual code, and doesn't require any kind of decryption to see it.

Sure beats scrawling it on the bathroom wall on his last day at the office.

Interestingly, his name also has a typo. I wonder if that was just that, a typo, or whether it was a concession...

6w ago - Activision Lead Producer Robert Conkey shared a video today which delves inside Elemental Combat in The Legend of Korra below.

To quote: We're back with the second and final installment in our behind the scenes video diary for The Legend of Korra - produced in partnership with Nickelodeon and developer PlatinumGames.

Part two takes us deeper into this incredible world of elements and spirits, beginning with a more personal look at the Avatar herself, Korra, who struggles with her own powers and the weight of the decisions she's made between Books 2 and 3 of Nickelodeon's animated TV series.

We also get to see PlatinumGames' new combat and progression systems in action, which faithfully recreate Korra's unique mastery of nature and the martial arts for some potentially devastating combos and finishers.

The full adventure includes opportunities to ride Korra's polar bear dog companion, Naga, in high-speed gameplay scenes through Republic City and beyond, as well as a separate game mode in which Korra and her allies take on the competitive challenges of the pro-bending league arena.

Video: Inside the Story of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4

19w ago - Monolith Productions Community Manager Andy Salisbury shared a video that goes inside the story of middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4 and PS3 with details below.

To quote: From the very beginning, all of us here at Monolith Productions knew we had to go to great lengths to make Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4 and PS3 as authentic as possible.

From the landscape, to the weapons, to the inhabitants, to the architecture - everything required extreme attention to detail, and our main story was no exception.

To make the story of Talion and the mysterious Wraith he's connected to a reality, we worked with Lead Designer and Writer Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption).

And to bring our Ranger of The Black Gate to life, we could think of none better than the esteemed Troy Baker (The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Batman: Arkham City). Together, we're shaping this new tale set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Check out our latest trailer above, which shows a glimpse of what it was like on set, and look closely for the first glimpse of a beloved Middle-earth character, and a few new faces.

Both Troy and Christian had a tremendous impact on...

Video: Inside the Explosions of Resogun on PS4 / PlayStation 4

50°
54w ago - Housemarque's Mikael Haveri shared some video footage today inside the explosions of Resogun on PS4 / PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: As final platform testing comes to an end, I'm here on behalf of Housemarque to share some new footage and a few development insights for Resogun, our incredible new shoot-em-up launching alongside PS4 on November 15th.

First off, a short video from the team telling you exactly what Resogun is about.

As the guys explained in the video, everything in Resogun is constructed from gazillions (too many to count) of 3D bricks/cubes, known as voxels.

Voxels aren't particularly new, but it's difficult and time consuming to build intricate structures with them, so designing the game worlds of Resogun has been a really interesting challenge.

Here (below) are some images showing some test buildings that we created.

The final worlds are, of course, much more sophisticated, but the cool thing these images illustrate is that the entire world in Resogun is literally a huge pile of bricks, begging to be blown up at any given moment. And one of the best things about Resogun is that stuff blows up all the time, and when stuff blows up in Resogun, it blows up BIG!
