PlayStation Plus: BioShock Infinite Joins Instant Game Collection

50°
25w ago - Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer announced today that PlayStation Plus: BioShock Infinite joins the Instant Game Collection.

To quote: It's almost time for BioShock Infinite to join the Instant Game Collection! The first BioShock allowed you to explore the downfall of the underwater society Rapture, but BioShock Infinite takes you to the skies - specificially the utopia of Colombia.

As Booker DeWitt, a hired gun, you've been contracted to find Elizabeth, a mysterious girl locked up in a massive tower with a giant mechanical bird as a bodyguard. Just like BioShock had plasmids to amp up its first-person shooter combat, BioShock Infinite has vigors.

Ranging from defensive with Return to Sender, which absorbs all damage and sends it hurling back at your enemy to the offensive with Charge, where Booker will slam into a specified opponent, you can mix up your play style throughout the game's campaign.

There's also a ton of titles on sale for both PS3 and PS Vita as part of our 14 for '14 promotion including Crysis 3, Far Cry: Blood Dragon and The Wolf Among Us Season Pass, so check out all the deals below.

You can download BioShock Infinite after PlayStation Store updates tomorrow.

46w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman shared a teaser video dubbed Burial at Sea and interview today featuring Ken Levine discussing BioShock Infinite's Return to Rapture below.

To quote: BioShock Infinite garnered wide acclaim this spring for its mind-bending story and fantastic environments.

But the announcement of Burial at Sea - a two-part adventure that sets Infinite protagonists Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth in the underwater city of Rapture - might just be Irrational's most ambitious and exciting project yet.

Creative Director Ken Levine kindly took a few minutes from his schedule to answer our pesky questions about the upcoming downloadable episodes.

PlayStation.Blog: What compelled Irrational to return to Rapture for BioShock Infinite's Burial at Sea DLC episodes?

Ken Levine, Creative Director, Irrational Games: We never wanted to return to Rapture unless there was something new to say; a new story to tell that wasn't just bringing to life the story that we already told.

We found that there was a Booker and Elizabeth story to tell in Rapture that we got very excited about. A fresh new story focused on the main characters of Infinite and the only...

Well, it's pencils down time at [Register or Login to view links].

Our goal has always been to make the player a participant in our games. The worlds of Rapture and Columbia are dripping with detail and story.

Combat is full of player-driven options. We don't want you to observe Booker DeWitt as he fights his way through BioShock Infinite. We want you to be him.

BioShock Infinite's city of Columbia is a place of mystery, danger and action. And after nearly five years of building it, I'm proud to tell you it no longer belongs to Irrational Games. It belongs to gamers.

To quote: Tomorrow marks a big day for world-acclaimed studio Irrational Games with the release of Bioshock Infinite, so it's only suitable that we mark the occasion with something special.

For the first time, we are partnering with a game developer to deliver a specially crafted audio experience exclusive to PlayStation. Tonight at midnight, we are launching a new audio mode for the PULSE-Elite Edition Headset designed especially for BioShock Infinite. Better still, it will be free.

Why a custom audio mode? [Register or Login to view links] wanted to elevate the dark world of [Register or Login to view links] to a new level by providing a richer gameplay experience.

We worked with them to take advantage of our new BassImpact technology embedded in the Pulse-Elite headset to create a sound profile that enables players to feel gunshots and explosions in a much more dynamic and powerful way.

Engineers on both teams worked together to tie the pulses from BassImpact to key audio elements in the game, creating a more immersive experience as you fight your way through...
