Is it finally game over for Florida lawyer and violent video game opponent Jack Thompson?

Judgment has been entered in the case that started last year and came to a head when Judge Dava Tunis recommended permanent disbarment for the bombastic, showboating law man. The court has approved the report and has ordered that Jack Thompson is officially disbarred as of 30 days from today.

To quote: The Court approves the corrected referee's report and John Bruce Thompson is permanently disbarred, effective thirty days from the date of this order so that respondent can close out his practice and protect the interests of existing clients.

If respondent notifies the Court in writing that he is no longer practicing and does not need the thirty days to protect existing clients, this Court will enter an order making the permanent disbarment effective immediately. Respondent shall accept no new business from the date this order is filed.

We had a chance to check in with MotorStorm: Pacific Rift once again. An "80% complete" demo we played gave us access to four different levels: two single player and two split-screen races. Easily the most impressive level we played had to be the Wildfire level.

This level takes everything that's good about MotorStorm and amplifies it to the extreme. Pacific Rift's play on hot versus cold goes into full effect here, in this dark volcanic level. It's unlike anything we've seen from the game so far, and it's a terrific contrast to the usual lush greens of the game.

With deadly lava and fire everywhere, this is quite possibly the most dramatic level in the MotorStorm series so far. Of course, with the heat so high, your vehicle will have a rather easy disposition to overheat whilst boosting -- we even went so far as to explode our bike. Ouch!

Thankfully, there are numerous showering stations scattered throughout the branching course, which will coo... More »

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and other platforms is LucasArts' most ambitious gaming project to-date. Taking over four years from concept to completion and enduring multiple delays, the long-awaited game is the first next-gen development effort by the small studio, and the first to utilize multiple new technologies and the direct input of Industrial Light and Magic.

Taking all this into consideration it comes as a bit of a surprise to see what print media is saying about the game. With four reviews in the can, Force Unleashed has only mustered a meta score of 6.8, with individual publication scores ranging from a mediocre 7.5 all the way down to a pathetic 56.

Official Xbox Magazine offers the highest score of 7.5 and has the following to offer.

With its non-branching storyline and no multiplayer, Force Unleashed ... More »

Any console that can play the upcoming Ferrari Challenge, take one step forward. Not so fast Xbox 360! At least if System 3 CEO, Mark Cale is to be believed when he says, “The PS3 offers the most powerful opportunity in the global marketplace.”

Barring some phantom super-console lurking in the E3 rafters, we suppose that’s fair. Though, the fact that Sony’s better established throughout Europe, and that continent’s insatiable appetite for racing titles probably shouldn’t be counted out either.

“1080p resolution is a better solution than just HD,” boasts Cale while taking a light jab at the 720p Forza 2. Certainly, no one’s clamoring for less “p”, so news of this nature will surely do its part as red meat for forum trolls who absolutely obsess over tech specs.

Although, the very same people, those combing over every progressive pixel, may also take issue with the game running at 30 frames a second. Cale claims that yo... More »

When NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 280 hits e-tailers next week, gamers who are running 30 inch displays with a 2560x1600 resolution, will finally be able to play Crysis with a solid framerate.

In order to do so it will require 2 GeForce GTX 280 video cards running in SLI. As for the many PC gamers who own 24" displays (1920x1200 resolution), just one GeForce GTX 280 should suffice for smooth gameplay, but don't expect to be able to crank all of the settings.

Although this is happy news to finally be able to play Crysis with high resolutions and high FPS, I can't help but wonder why it still requires more than the best of the best to play with settings on max.

Poor game programming? Lame video drivers? Weak GPUs? Now that the patches for Crysis have come to end...will we ever know? Truly it is baffling to me that even with my Quad SLI setup I only average around 45 FPS with my 1920x1080 resolution. Every other game I play with this setup can run perfe... More »

Last week 2K Sports unleashed NHL 2K8 on the suspecting populace, garnering slightly above average reviews all around with the notable exception of 1up, who gave it a 4 out of 10. Ouch. Perhaps they would have changed their tune has 2K released the new Reelmaker feature with the game, instead of dropping 400 Microsoft points worth of DLC a week later.

Reelmaker is an add-on for the Xbox 360 version of the game that allows players to edit together replays of the in-game action, changing angles and adding their own sound and special effects to create highlight reels that can then be shared via Xbox Live. Really doesn't sound like the kind of feature hardcore hockey fans could really sink their teeth into, but I could be wrong. Any budding directors / hockey gamers in the audience?

Our friends over at Sony HQ must be at their whits end with all this Halo 3 talk, because they devilishly and secretly stuck it to the Halo franchise with a ::gasp:: Wikipedia revision! Using WikiScanner, it was discovered that an IP address originating out of Sony's UK studios edited the Wikipedia entry for "Halo series" dissing Halo 3's graphics. Sony's Wiki revision poked fun of the game's graphics by saying that they "wont look any better than Halo 2". Ouch Sony, just ouch. But don't worry Halo fanboys, because the Halo series wiki entry has since been corrected and set to a semi-locked status. Take that Halo haters!
