Kotaku (linked above) has revealed that some lucky Taiwanese people who purchased a PlayStation 3 Slim at launch received a unique bonus- commemorative launch sets.

Today Sony's Satoshi Hashimoto, in an interview with Impress Watch, confirmed that Sony will not be removing the OtherOS and Linux functionality in old (non-Slim) PlayStation 3 consoles.

Until now, many feared Sony would remove the functionality from older PS3 systems via PS3 Firmware 3.0 or a future update.

Similar to both the Petitboot Bootloader and pdaXrom-NG Bootloader for PS3 Linux, the OurOS project in development is a Linux-based user interface for the PS3.

It is real. As previously reported, according to Super_Secret the 'PS3 Slim' is a PS3 that's been cut down as much as physically possible without preventing the loss of playback of any existing PS3 title out there.

It still has Blu-ray, it still has wireless, it still has bluetooth and it still has gigabit ethernet. "OtherOS" support has been removed.
You still get 2 USB ports....
