GN has been following the Xbox 360's various hardware alterations for quite a while now, and it's been a pretty interesting story so far. From the original, RRoD prone Xenon mobo to the Zephyr and Falcon successors as well as the upcoming Jasper design, there's been no shortage of news in the field. Today, as a matter of fact, we've got a look at another Xbox 360 chipset, the extremely rare "Opus" as discovered by member Electric Tunder on the Xbox-Underground forums.
Designed specifically to help Microsoft recoup losses on RRoD'd hardware that's been returned for repairs, the Opus chipset is a Falcon-generation mobo that'll snap into original Xenon Xbox 360s. Because it is installed in refurbished Xbox 360 launch chasses, the Opus lacks HDMI-out. It does, however, feature the Falcon-era HANA video chip that supports digital output, which means a really skilled modder could potentially retrofit such a connection.
The Opus also looks to be sporting the 65-nm ... More »
Next time you sit down to write your Great American Novel, perhaps you should consider tapping the opus out on your Wii with Logic 3's weird and somewhat awful - though excellently named - Wii Keyboard.
There's not much meat on these bones - it's simply an add-on for Nintendo's console that allows you to type on a QWERTY pad rather than light-sabering all over your apartment to name your new Mii "Death Bringer."
The keyboard is due out July 18th (in the UK at least), and will nab a tidy £14.99 (or about $30).
The initial shock and awe of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has come and gone, and it's now time to reflect on Hideo Kojima's recently released opus. Though MGS4 is no doubt a stunning game and many would argue evidence for videogames being treated as art, it's by no means perfect.
Having just completed the game and spent some time in Metal Gear Online, I'm here to share my gripes about the game. Being a long-time fan of the MGS series, it's frustrating to see MGS4 turn out the way that it did, but I suppose it is what it is.
Be warned, I don't have any criticisms of the story, but I do discuss the gameplay in each Act of the game, so if you don't want anything spoiled, best to just move on.
1. No reason to be on the Playstation 3
Why is this game on the PS3 again, besides Sony likely throwing a ton of money at Konami to keep it exclusive? It doesn't utilize the Playstation 3's strengths at all. The previously sho... More »
In keeping with tradition of the United States’ second most gambled-upon sporting event, horse racing’s Triple Crown, it’s time for gamers to put their money where their mouths are and predict their choice for Game of the Year 2008.
While we’ve already seen a wealth of great titles, gaming’s biggest season has not yet even descended upon us; with it will come a flood of excellent titles ranging from RPG's including Fable 2 to FPS's like Resistance 2 and everything in-between. Here are the choices that have ReelGamers’ engines revved for 2008.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii)
We all witnessed the power of the Nintendo brand when the bulk of its stars gather for one magnificent title. To this day, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, though not typically called a fighter by the hardcore masses, has outperformed every other brawler in terms of enjoyment.
Though formulaic in its approach, SSBB is packed with an astounding amount of Nintendo... More »
French Web site Jeuxvideo have posted a new Socom Confrontation video for PS3 which can be viewed HERE.
Additionally, several screenshots can be seen at the source linked above.
A very rough translation states: "In lose speed for a certain time already the series of the SOCOM will be able to count on new a opus to try to start again itself.
Envisaged on PlayStation 3, SOCOM: Confrontation will be directed very clearly towards the online game since the title will make it possible thirty-two virtual soldiers to clash according to several modes of play.
The players will be able to thus incarnate various crack corpses such as the German KSK, British SAS, or the American SWAT. It is hoped in any case that this opus will be able to rectify the bar. The answer this autumn!"
A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to Level Up that sometime later this month, retailers will begin selling a $39.99 SKU of Warhawk that does not include the Bluetooth headset. When the game went on sale in August, two versions were available: a download-only version sold through the Playstation Network for $39.99, and Blu-Ray disc version with a Jabra Bluetooth headset packed in, for $59.99. With this price reduction, the retail and digitally distributed versions of Warhawk now sell for the same price.
We first got wind of a possible stripped down retail SKU for Warhawk on Friday, when, in the course of reporting a separate story, we came across a listing for "Warhawk--Game Only" on GameStop's Web site. The listing says that the $39.99 version will be available on October 10th, but the Sony rep had not been able to confirm that with SCEA's sales department by press time. When asked whether this was indicative of Sony's strategy for future AAA games t... More »
