It appears a global class action law suit is going to hit EA over the DRM used in Spore. The 36-page PDF document is available for viewing all the details.

The suit attacks the DRM used in Spore, citing that consumers are not told fully about it before purchase that it is a separate and stand-alone program which will download, install and operate on their computers.

Even if the game is deleted, the SecuROM DRM remains a permanent fixture on the consumers hard drive until it is formatted.

This law suit asserts it is going to fight that EA purposely never told consumers that the Spore game disk never had this second hidden program (DRM) which is secretly installed on computers.

Nintendo doesn't exactly advertise it, but the remotes for the Wii gaming console (including the balance board that comes with Wii Fit) have Bluetooth capabilities.

That means you can connect your Wii peripherals to your computer to operate the media center hooked up to your TV, play emulated games with a Nunchuk, Classic Controller, or even a Balance Board, and pretty much have them do anything you can do with a keyboard. Let's walk through linking up your Wii peripherals and putting them in control of your Mac, PC, or Linux box.

To give you an idea of what you can do with a Wii/PC hook-up, here's a look at one neat example: Controlling Windows Media Center from a distance, without having to shell out for a separate remote control.

Video is courtesy of Flickr can be seen HERE, and the software setup can been seen at the link up top of this news article.

With YouTube disruptive to the movie and TV industries, a panel at the recent Social Gaming Summit, including Daniel James (Puzzle Pirates) and Cary Rosenzweig (IMVU) looked at the idea that that the games industry should understand user generated content before it's too late, with the intriguing proposition that game developers should think virtual "spaces" not virtual "worlds."

"The more tools that you provide can lead to richer behavior, but often it's the simpler things that people enjoy most," began Daniel James, CEO of Three Rings. "As designing games constraints can lead you to designing better games, constrained environments can lead to more fun."

"The simplest games are the ones everybody can join in and play," expanded Ted Rheingold, founder of Dogster and Catster.

Cary Rosenzwieg, the president and CEO of IMVU, described their take on user-generated content. "Almost 100% of the content in IMVU is user-generated. They have ... More »

James Price, part of the team at Piggyback finishing up 'Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: The Complete Official Guide' has given his top 12 tips for the game.

1. Life Gauge

Keeping the Life Gauge topped up is vital, but it’s just as important not to panic and keep filling the gauge unnecessarily with precious items. Though you can replenish it with healing objects such as Rations and Noodles, you should take care not to waste them – especially on higher difficulty levels. Using a Ration when Snake’s Life Gauge is 80% full, for example, is plain foolish. You usually don’t need to even think about refilling the gauge until it drops below 25%. During boss fights or difficult skirmishes, you should instead equip Rations, Noodles or Regain and position them as an “active” item. Once Snake’s health reaches zero, these will be automatically used until your stocks are exhausted.

One other method of restoring Snake’s health ... More »

After a federal judge awarded the MPAA a summary judgment against former BitTorrent tracker TorrentSpy late last year, the only question left was how much it would end up costing TorrentSpy's admins.

We've got our answer, and it comes in the form of a staggering $110 million damage award, or $30,000 in statutory damages for each of the nearly 3,700 files in the MPAA's complaint.

The MPAA announced the award in a press release (PDF) earlier today.

"This substantial money judgment sends a strong message about the illegality of these sites," said Dan Glickman, Chairman and CEO of the MPAA. "The demise of TorrentSpy is a clear victory for the studios and demonstrates that such pirate sites will not be allowed to continue to operate without facing relentless litigation by copyright holders."

In addition to the damage award, ... More »

Super-fast broadband could be delivered via the underground pipes of the UK's water and electricity companies, regulator Ofcom has said.

It is conducting a survey of the UK's ducting network to see its suitability for carrying fibre networks.

Some companies in the UK and France already offer fast broadband via the sewers.

Ofcom also wants to see the three million homes earmarked to be built in the UK by 2020, fibre-enabled.

Change perception

It has opened a consultation - which will run until June 25 - to see how best to regulate next-generation networks.

Critics have warned that the regulator is not doing enough and that the UK is in real danger of falling behind with the rollout of superfast broadband access.

"The fact that this is just a consultation is another indication that the UK is lagging behind," said Ian Fogg, an analyst with Jupiter Research.

In France, for ... More »
