Video: 10Tons Ltd Announces King Oddball is Out Tomorrow on PS4

24w ago - 10tons Ltd PR Coordinator Jaakko Maaniemi shared a video below today announcing that King Oddball is out tomorrow on PS4.

To quote: Hello readers - exciting times! It's been pretty frantic bringing King Oddball over to PS4 from PS Vita, but we're really happy to have it as our first PS4 release.

We can't wait to see how the game is received on the big screen.

I've covered the game pretty well on Playstation.Blog in earlier posts, so I'll shed some light on the various special level sets and how they came to be.

First, a quick recap: King Oddball is a skill-based, physics puzzler, where your goal is to clear the screen of enemies with three throwable rocks. So far so ordinary, but in King Oddball, you don't get to fling the rocks any way you please.

The King swings a rock back and forth like a pendulum, and the rock is released when you hit X. Gravity takes over, and you hit your target if your timing was good.

Accurate timing takes you only so far though, because soon enough you need to be strategizing about where the rock will bounce after the first, second, and even third impact. Tip: it's often good to start from the topmost targets, as the rock will fall down eventually,...

10tons Ltd Announces King Oddball Conquers PS4 on April 1st

26w ago - 10tons Ltd PR Coordinator Jaakko Maaniemi announced that King Oddball conquers PlayStation 4 on April 1st, 2014.

To quote: Hi PS4 gamers! I'm Jaakko from the Finnish game developer 10tons, and I've got some great news: Our fair studio is about to debut on PS4!

Our first PS4 title is a strange, skill-based physics puzzle called King Oddball. Some of you may know the game from its PS Vita version released in January. We have more great games for PS4 in production too, and we'll share more on those soon.

As far as physics-based puzzles go, King Oddball stands out quite distinctly. Few games feature a floating rock head with a ginormously long tongue as the main character. As eccentric as the theme may be, the game is decidedly straightforward. King Oddball is ending the world, and you're going to help him.

The gameplay is based on pressing a button at precisely the right moment. The King picks up a rock with his tongue and swings it back and forth like a pendulum. The rock is released when you hit X. It's not just a simple test of timing though: After the first few levels, you'll need to crush more enemies than you have rocks for.

That, in turn, requires careful strategy and anticipation of how the chain reactions will unfold. We've tuned the physics model to...

10Tons Ltd Announces King Oddball is Out Today on PlayStation Vita

33w ago - 10Tons Ltd PR Coordinator Jaakko Maaniemi announced that King Oddball is out today on PlayStation Vita with details below.

To quote: Hi, readers! 10tons is back this week with another PS Vita game - a unique and eccentric, skill-based puzzler called King Oddball.

As the title states, King Oddball is... unusual. Sure, the Angry Birds comparison comes to mind quickly, but King Oddball stands on its own handsomely.

Like Angry Birds, King Oddball is about clearing the level of enemies by squashing them with lobbed objects. And the way it's done is all about physics.

Unlike Angry Birds, King Oddball's levels fit in single screen, and there's (basically) only one kind of ammo to lob: rocks. And you don't get to throw them around any way you please, either.

Oh, no. The King automatically picks up the rocks and swings them back and forth by his tongue, and the player merely releases the rock by pressing X or tapping the screen. That's it.

It may sound easy, and it is... until it gets hard. It may also sound simple, and it is... until it gets complicated. The beauty of the gameplay mechanics lies in the fact that we've tightened the physics engine's precision screws as tight as they go.

That way we achieve accuracy and predictability with the...

Video: King Oddball Ends The World Launches on PS Vita Today

37w ago - 10tons PR Coordinator Jaakko Maaniemi shared a fresh video announcing that King Oddball Ends The World launches on PS Vita today.

To quote: Greetings from still miraculously snowless Finland, PlayStation Blog readers! This week 10tons is back with another game to PS Vita, and what a game it is.

I'm quite frankly not sure what to say about King Oddball. Or, King Oddball Ends the World, as the full name goes in all its glory. The game is a bit peculiar, you see. You're probably better off trying the free trial.

While it's technically true that King Oddball falls in the same physics-based puzzle category as Angry Birds, the fruitfulness of the comparison doesn't last long. Sure, you lob objects at things in both games, but that's largely as far as the similarities go.

First of all, King Oddball is a bit weird. What the heck the titular main character even is? What is he a king of? Why is his tongue so absurdly long and stretchy? Why is he in such a foul mood? Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is the eccentric art style and accordion-heavy soundtrack fit the game perfectly.

Gameplay-wise, and this is probably the part everyone is the most interested in, King Oddball is equally uncommon:...

79w ago - Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli has announced today that Uncharted 3: Oddball PlayStation 3 DLC is out today.

Below are the details, to quote: The [Register or Login to view links] launched a few weeks ago and we've seen a healthy uplift to our community, to the tune of over three hundred and fifty thousand downloads of the Free-to-Play client to date globally.

We're very excited to see our community grow, and we're stoked to keep expanding the world of UNCHARTED to as many people as possible.

To keep that momentum going, as promised, we're making new DLC available for purchase every month until June 2013. This month we're recognizing [Register or Login to view links] - or a day around it anyway - by unveiling our [Register or Login to view links] character parts for your UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer characters.

Why Oddball? Well, these character parts defy classification as they don't quite fit among the numerous other parts we'll have coming out over the next few months, and Extraterrestrial Abductions Day is a bit of an odd holiday anyway. Here's a glimpse at some of the...
