18w ago - Grimm Bros Co-founder Ash Monif announced today alongside a video trailer that Dragon Fin Soup is coming to PS4, PS3 and PS Vita consoles.

To quote: Hello, we are Grimm Bros, nice meeting you all! We are Ash Monif and Randis Albion, long time friends and industry veterans.

Over the last twelve months, we've been working with a small band of indie developers and today we're proud to share with you our debut title - [Register or Login to view links]!

Dragon Fin Soup is part roguelike and part classic console RPG, with a persistent world and story. It plays like a mix of Chocobo's Dungeon and Secret of Mana, and it comes with two main gameplay modes. Story Mode focuses on storytelling, character progression, and plays more like a classic RPG, while Survival Mode plays more like a Roguelike and features permanent death.

Dragon Fin Soup is a turn-based game - not quite like Final Fantasy Tactics or XCOM, but more like Shiren or Chocobo Dungeon where foes take their turn simultaneously with the player, allowing for more dynamic and fast-paced gameplay.

The world of Dragon Fin Soup is inspired by fantasy and fairy tales and is set on Asura, a giant space turtle. We are not...

Sony: PS4 to Arrive with Next-Gen Consoles from Competitors

1050°
139w ago - Contrary to previous reports, PlayStation Europe CEO Jim Ryan recently stated to [Register or Login to view links] that PS4 will probably arrive at the same time as Next-Gen XBox and Nintendo consoles.

To quote: "I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]."

He also noted, however, that there is still a lot of life left in the PS3 and explained:

"If you look at PlayStation 2, now in excess of 150m units installed globally, a huge majority of that was done at price points of £120 or lower.

We've only just hit £199 in the UK [with the PS3] so clearly there's a considerable untapped part of the market there."

Is anyone ready for a potential PS4 release as early as 2012?

Speculation: No Ultra HD for Sony's Next-gen PS4 Console?

750°
193w ago - While Sony previously confirmed that developers will play a key role in building their next-gen console which is expected to arrive after the Microsoft and Nintendo counterparts, today PS4Sony.net (linked above) speculates that the PS4 won't include Ultra HD support.

Based on specifications from [Register or Login to view links], they surmise the technology just doesn't seem feasible for next-gen consoles including the PlayStation 4.

To quote: "Today, Full HD offers up a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, whereas the new you-beaut Ultra HD offers a whopping max resolution of 7680 x 4320!

Ultra HD poses numerous practical problems for manufacturers seeking to bring the new format to consumers. The uncompressed video and audio recorded in ultra HD takes up high volumes of storage space - 3.5 terabytes for one 18-minute clip, requiring a hard disc weighing almost 600 pounds (272 kg).

The prototype ultra HD screen can use more electricity than an entire house might in one month. An early ultra HD camera weighs more than 100 pounds...

E3 2009: Persona 5 Coming to Next-Gen Consoles?

50°
268w ago - Fans of Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei Persona series have been anxiously awaiting a next-gen update to the cult favorite series.

That wait might not be too much longer, to quote:

Today, Atlus told our E3 reporting team that Persona 5 "probably won't be on the PlayStation 2," and will likely be making the jump to the PlayStation 3 and/or Xbox 360.

It's much too soon to talk about release schedules, but just the notion that the game is in development is good enough for me.

The PlayStation 2 versions of the series were highly enjoyable, and if Atlus gives the same love and attention to this next entry, you can be sure they'll have another critical darling on their hands.
