If while executing it asks: You are running a kernel (version 2.6.38-powerpc64) and attempting to remove the same version. This is a potentially disastrous action. Not only will /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-powerpc64 be removed, making it impossible to boot it, (you will have to take action to change your boot loader to boot a new kernel), it will also remove all modules under the directory /lib/modules/2.6.38-powerpc64. Just having a copy of the kernel image is not enough, you will have to replace the modules too.
I repeat, this is very dangerous. If at all in doubt,...
To quote: Just wanted to let you guys know that Amazon (for the US anyway) has begun shipping out the 3001-A's to customers. There is actually a few more changes to the hardware then I noticed in the pics (I have one). the Wifi light was removed but not the HDD light, the PS logo above the drive is now silk screened rather then an emblem while the silk screened SONY logo was removed in favor of an indented logo.
125w ago - Update: Sony has now confirmed the news via ArsTechnica stating, to quote: "The new CECH-3000 series PS3 requires HDMI only for BD movie output in HD, in compliance with AACS standards, PS3 continues to support component output for HD gaming and streaming content."
Today Kotaku (linked above) reports news of a rumor that Sony may be removing HD downscale for the component output on new 'K' PS3 Slim models making an HDMI cable mandatory for them.
To quote: "A tipster sends us rumored word (and image) of an incoming replacement model for the 160GB PlayStation 3 which brings with it a change in the way some people will hook the console up to their HD television.
The new "K" chassis, which Sony will begin shipping to retailers this week, will require customers to use an HDMI cable to play a game or watch a movie in high definition, according to the tipster. The component out, which on all other models supports high definition video modes, will no longer do so, according to a memo apparently sent around at GameStop today.
All future models of the PS3, the memo continues, will require an HDMI cable for high definition output. Previous models will not...
154w ago - While we know that PS3 Firmware 3.55 patches the ability to downgrade your PlayStation 3 console, this weekend Dukio reports that brand new 3.50 PS3 Consoles may also not be downgradable as well.
To quote: "Amid reports of new PS3 Slims owners who have no luck in downgrading their PS3 consoles, i would like to warn those people who like to buy a new PS3 console and Jailbreak it by looking at these suggestions below:
1. Beware of pre-installed 3.50 firmwares PS3 Slims, most people have no success in downgrading their console with any methods online on these consoles. The new batch of PS3 slims might have been given some kind of protection in order to prevent it from downgrading to an earlier version of firmware. So, please take note of it.
2. If you still want to buy a stocked 3.50 firmware console or that there are no other version of PS3s available in your area, i suggest buying on earlier CECH models, like CECH-25xx and clearly stay away with CECH-251x! You might also want to check the console with this sticker instead of this. Notice the bold part? dekoslav has confirmed that the bold one can be downgraded."
170w ago - This weekend I heard from a good source (my guy in Oz Land) that Sony will be combatting the PSJailBreak with new PlayStation 3 models and PS3 HDD encryption.
This is what he said, to quote: "I heard Sony is holding back new supply of consoles, as they are removing dev and debug modes. This means you cannot get consoles easily fixed in repair centres so no more extended warranties.
THIS MEANS PSJB AND PSGROOVE WILL NO LONGER WORK ON NEW CONSOLES"
He went on to state the following, to quote: "Additionally, it is rumoured, the new 320GB PS3's will have firmware loaded onto the HDD and encrypted in a way that you cannot do a DD copy to a new HDD, so no longer can you load a heap of games to your HDD as you will be locked to the one that was loaded retail."
We have to wait and see now... M$ did the same with their consoles when we jtagged them, so I guess Sony can do the same with an update eh.
