110w ago - Hulu Principal Software Development Lead Daniel Bear has announced today that the latest Hulu Plus PS3 update includes new improved navigation and discovery as outlined below!

To quote: It's been two years since [Register or Login to view links] first launched in living rooms across the U.S. via PlayStation 3 - but we haven't stopped there.

Since then, we've kept our promise to never stop innovating. Our team of passionate engineers in Hulu's Seattle office has been hard at work, taking your feedback to build the latest entertainment experience for your living room.

I'm excited to announce that the new and improved [Register or Login to view links] experience rolls out today on PlayStation 3. Designed to help you get to the shows you watch faster than ever before, the new experience includes larger, more vivid artwork and is easier to navigate.

We've implemented a tray-style format that allows you to scroll through recommendations based on your viewing history, or check out popular shows and movies, the top 100 clips on Hulu Plus, movie trailers and more. We've also included a "Shows You Watch" feature that highlights the content you regularly enjoy, and lets you jump straight to the latest episode.

Video: PlayStation Move XMB Navigation Speed Demonstration

250°
227w ago - We have recently reported on the PlayStation Move launch date and titles from E3 2010, and this weekend uptodateksa2 has shared a PlayStation Move XMB navigation speed demonstration video on YouTube.

Although the video's origin appears to be from PlayStation Saudi Arabia and isn't in English, it demonstrates both the squeezably soft ball located atop the PS3 motion controller and the speedy navigation possible through Sony's XMB (XrossMediaBar) menu on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

PlayStation Move Subcontroller CECH-ZCS1U Navigation Controller

350°
236w ago - A few weeks back Sony's PlayStation Move hit the FCC, and today Engadget (linked above) uncovered the subcontroller dubbed the Navigation Controller.

The [Register or Login to view links] state that it will be officially known by Sony as the CECH-ZCS1U.

To quote: "Sony part number CECH-ZCS1U just hit the FCC's database, and "Navigation Controller" is written in nice bold letters right there on the label.

It's looking like this is official, as the Sony US Web site has been quietly updated with the change, and we think it makes a certain amount of sense, as most 3D games let you aim the camera with your dominant hand and relegate navigation to the other. Like the Motion Controller, Sony's opted for confidentiality on this one."

The Getaway for PS2 Analyizes 'Satellite Navigation' in our Brains

50°
319w ago - Researchers believe that our brains contain navigation systems much like satellite navigation with grids, compasses and in-built maps.

Recently, two researchers used the PS2 game 'The Getaway' to analyse how taxi drivers use their brain areas to navigate.

To quote: In a follow-up study, Dr Spiers and Professor Maguire used the PlayStation 2 video game "The Getaway" to examine how taxi drivers use their hippocampus and other brain areas when they navigate. Taxi drivers used the virtual reality simulation to navigate the streets of London whilst lying in an fMRI brain scanner.

The researchers found that the hippocampus is most active when the drivers first think about their route and plan ahead. By contrast, activity in a diverse network of other brain areas increases as they encounter road blocks, spot expected landmarks, look at the view and worry about the thoughts of their customers and other drivers.
