Nintendo released a recent update that once again tries to secure some existing bugs on the console, breaks some things, deletes others. This time they’ve also gone around and modified the TOS. As usual, mass panic ensues.

The people who are panicking can be divided roughly into two groups (non exclusive):

- The pirates
- The clueless

This should go without saying, but we don’t want to have anything to do with the former group. Nintendo is obviously going to fight piracy (and that’s going to hurt homebrew). We’ll have to deal with the homebrew part, but don’t expect that to help piracy in any way. It may, or it may not. And if it doesn’t, pirates will have to deal with fighting nintendo themselves.

The usual messages about WADs, “backups”, and all that crap are going straight to /dev/null, and we’re seeing... More »

Although still labeled as System Menu 3.3, this Nintendo Wii update officially includes the renaming of Wii Points to Nintendo Points and cosmetic changes to some of the menu icons.

Unofficially, the update is said to block the Wii Homebrew Channel and more as follows:

- This blocks new installations of anything fakesigned, that is, Homebrew Channel (both new installs and updates), wads (legal and illegal), Starfall, cIOS, anything that installs IOSes secretly like AnyRegion Changer or AnyTitle Deleter, xyzzy and DVDX (used for apps which have DVD support). This list is not exhaustive, but please add to it if you think of anything else.
- This also blocks access to /dev/flash. This means raw nand dumping utilities no longer work.
- If something is already installed then it isn't affected, like Homebrew Channel, etc.
- The homebrew developers are already planning how to work around this update.
- You currently need this update to acc... More »

Today Dark_AleX has released a PlayStation Portable 1.50 kernel add-on for 5.00 (phat) consoles with M33 Custom Firmware.

Download: PSP 1.50 Kernel Add-On for 5.00 M33 CFW / PSP 1.50 Kernel Add-On for 5.00 M33 CFW [Mirror]

Instructions: Copy to /PSP/GAME5XX and run.

Note: because even deleting LFTV and korean font there was not enough space this time, this version will delete also flash0:/dic/apotp.dic

I'm unsure about what this file is for (maybe for Japanese text predicition?) but system works fine with it.

IF you want to keep some of the things deleted by the 150k_installer do following things.

- Install DC7. Use the Format flash options in nand operations menu. Make flash1 size like around 1 MB smaller, make flash3 the smallest possible, and make flash2 a bit smaller (not too much, or... More »

GamePark has lifted the veil on its successor to the open-source GP2X handheld. Dubbed as “The Wiz,” core specifications include a 533MHz ARM9 processor, 64MB RAM, a 2.8 inch OLED screen with touch panel support, and 1GB of built-in NAND flash memory.

Features on the software end include support for Macromedia Flash 7, as well as a pre-loaded MP3 player, image viewer, and EBOOK reader.

All in all, GamePark is promising at least 5 hours of battery life on a 2000mAh lithium battery. The unit itself is fairly small, weighing in at 136g with the battery inserted.

Pricing details have yet to be announced. As with previous GP2X iterations, the hardware will ship alongside the release of a free open-source SDK, allowing homebrew developers to create their own applications and games.

Team Twiizers have released MenuLoader v0.4 today. This application includes the same features as Crediar's HackInstaller without writing to the NAND flash. While this method is a lot safer, you must run the DOL every time you want to use the features. It also works on all Wii systems, unlike Crediar's which would only work on PAL systems with v3.2 firmware.

Download: MenuLoader v0.4 for Nintendo Wii

Changelog:

* Debug by USBGecko
* RegionFree for Channels
* RegionFree for discs
* Remove the screen heatlhsafety (which appears at the launch of the Wii)
* No music on screen
