A few months ago, the gaming community had its mind set that this generation is the end of 3rd party exclusives, and there will be a big push towards multiplatform.

Over the past year, there were a lot of multiplatform games released from the older Oblivion to the more contemporary Call of Duty, and to the more recent Bioshock.

There seems to be an agreement amongst gamers that the Xbox 360 always had the better version of the game because it’s easier to program for, and of course sometimes that is true, but I also picked the above 3 examples to illustrate the point that sometimes the sheep mentality can be quite deceiving.

The PlayStation 3 version is not “always” the worst one, and sometimes it may even be the preferred version due to the free cost of PSN or the addition of Trophy system (if you prefer it over the Achievement system on your Xbox 360).

Or even better graphics (Oblivion), or extra contents (Bioshock/Eternal ... More »

From Software is known for developing very stylistic games, from Otogi: Myth of Demons to Armored Core for Answer, among others. Their next project is a first-party game from Microsoft called Ninja Blade.

In Ninja Blade, which takes place high atop the skyscrapers of Tokyo, Ken Ogawa and his team of ninjas are deployed to destroy an infected monster horde and stem the spreading disease.

After narrowly escaping betrayal and death, Ogawa is left to fight the daunting battle alone. Armed with an arsenal of specialized ninja weapons, tools and skills, players must fight insurmountable odds to restore peace to Tokyo.

Microsoft has just released three new in-game screens from Ninja Blade, which we've included for your viewing pleasure. Although From Software has never been a graphical slouch, It's obvious that the studio is doing things graphically on Xbox 360 that many developers are hard-pressed to achieve on the PS3.

Daily GameFunk analyzes the 360's prospects for the immediate and long-term future. With the 360 being surpassed by the Wii in North America, and the Playstation 3 in Europe, the article seeks to answer the question: Is the 360 dead? And if not, what can Microsoft do to keep the 360 viable against strong competition?

In terms of sales, the 360 has been struggling to gain its footing on very slippery slope this year. After being the leading console in the US for more than 2 years, it was finally surpassed by the Wii at the end of May.

In addition to this, Sony announced a few weeks ago that they had finally outsold the 360 in Europe, landing another critical blow to the 360. With this on top of numerous other issues, many have began contemplating whether or not Microsoft has already closed up shop on the 360 and began looking at future consoles. However, this is simply not the case.

Microsoft has lost the advantage of having the largest install ba... More »

No matter which way you cut the cheese, the Wii has been a huge success for Nintendo. Sales for the little white box of joy have been extremely impressive, and it isn’t uncommon for some Aussie retailers to witness ‘Wii droughts’ due to the console rapidly disappearing off the shelves like Hotcakes, or Tickle Me Elmo, or some yet-to-be-recalled anatomically correct Barbie doll.

Immense console sales are all well and good for the bean counters and the Nintendo money bin, but when it comes to game titles the Wii has a fatal flaw: 3rd party shovelware and the piss-poor graphics contained therein.

With the occasional exceptions from a handful of talented 3rd party developers with the time and money to spend on their products, most of the high watermark visuals we’ve seen on the system have been spewed forth from Nintendo themselves.

This is mainly due to the majority of third party developers saturating store shelves with low budget, half-ar... More »

For a series that was left practically dead after the horrifying Angel of Darkness, Tomb Raider has been revived so well by Crystal Dynamics that it’s now got people who’ve never played the games hopelessly falling in love with it. Having first taken the spunky, extremely well-endowed Lara out for a spin in 1997, and having gone back to where it all began with Anniversary, this deranged, maniacal, slack-jawed Tomb Raider nutcase has seen it all. Having made Legend and Anniversary the best damned games in the series, Crystal Dynamics looks set to pull out all the stops in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld, which already has a quite a bit of fans going “Drake who?”

We sat and dug through the first preview on the PLAY magazine, and we’ve got all the dirt on Lara’s latest adventure. Directly continuing from her adventures in Legend, Tomb Raider: Underworld (as the name suggests) will see Lara explore vast labyrinthian areas around the world, in addition to doing... More »
