Video: Inside the Creation of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell's Music

100°
3w ago - Creative Director Steve Jaros posted up a PS4 video today taking an inside look at the creation of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell's music on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: Music has always been an important part of the Saints Row franchise:

• Saints Row was inspired by over-the-top hip-hop music videos.
• Saints Row 2 introduced sing alongs.
• Saints Row: The Third showcased the sing alongs as a bonding moment between characters, as well as key licensed tracks to enhance emotion.
• Saints Row IV added dance into the mix (originally we wanted to end with a Bollywood dance number but scope reduction transformed it into the soul train line).
• How The Saints Save Christmas ends with a Christmas montage (originally set to "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey).

So when we decided that Gat out of Hell was going to be Saints Row's take on a Disney-esque fairy tale, we knew pretty early on that a musical number was essential to the experience.

This was exciting to me for two reasons: First, the introduction of a musical number wasn't going to be just some gag, it (like all musicals) was going to convey central plot points and character motivation just like any cutscene.

The Sci-fi Funk in Cosmic Star Heroine's Music on PS4 and PS Vita

50°
5w ago - Zeboyd Games Lead Designer Robert Boyd shared a sneak peek at the Sci-fi Funk in Cosmic Star Heroine's music on PS4 and PS Vita below today.

To quote: From the Western-infused opening of Wild Arms to the vocalized battles of the Persona series, music is an essential element to any great RPG.

For our upcoming PS4 and Vita RPG, Cosmic Star Heroine, we knew we needed an amazing soundtrack - so we teamed up with Hyperduck Soundworks (Dust: An Elysian Tail, Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4, Kingdom Rush: Frontiers). Here to tell you a bit about the composing process is Chris Geehan from Hyperduck.

Chris Geehan: For the Cosmic Star Heroine soundtrack, we initially wanted to harness our own personal love for 80′s and 90′s film, game, and anime music, going from the Blade Runner soundtrack scored by Vangelis, to the Lethal Weapon soundtracks scored by Michael Kamen, David Sanborn (Saxophone), and Eric Clapton (Guitar), from the Grandia soundtrack scored by Noriyuki Iwadare, to the anime soundtrack of Bleach scored by Shirō Sagisu. The list just kept growing, bigger and bigger, and the influences are indeed vast.

Having such a large scope for music styles and influences is an exciting thing, and takes a lot of care and consideration to make...

PS4 System Software 2.00 Preview - USB Music Player, Details

750°
10w ago - Sony Product Planning and Software Innovation Director Scott McCarthy shared a preview of PS4 System Software 2.00 today, which features a USB Music Player, new Home Screen colors and more with screenshots and details below!

To quote: You may already know that PS4's upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes - but the updates don't end there.

I have personally stated in past blog posts that we listen to our fans. PlayStation has heard gamers when they say they want more ways to find friends to play with, and more ways to personalize their PS4.

With this update, we've added a Players You May Know tile, the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4.

PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we're committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our...
