The kids come back to the enchanted world in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and it turns out more than a thousand years has passed and everything has gone to hell -- the Telmarine are in control and the magical dwarfs and animals have been driven into hiding.

I don't think he's going to block this one. When the folks in the Disney Interactive booth picked up the controller to give us a once through in this land of make believe at the German Games Convention, we got to see one of the battles for control that raged in the children's absence and how the three-character co-op game will perform.

As magical creatures waged war against a human invasion outside a castle, the majority of our demo came from the perspective of a dwarf and a minotaur as they ran through the battle doing their part to get a W in their column.

The build was admittedly early but already had some impressive mechanics -- such as the massive amounts of brawlers on the ... More »

Konami managed to pump out the first four Silent Hill games in five years, so what the hell is taking Silent Hill 5 so long? Discounting the critically mixed movie by Brotherhood of the Wolf director Christophe Gans (who isn't coming back for the proposed sequel), it's been a whopping four years since gamers have entered the town of Silent Hill, but that's about to change next fall with Silent Hill 5.

In the newest issue of EGM, on shelves September 4 and rolling out to subscribers now, Shane Bettenhausen goes behind-the-scenes to get the scoop on Silent Hill 5, currently in development at American studio The Collective (best known for beat 'em up Buffy the Vampire Slayer, last seen adapting the not-so-hot The Da Vinci Code), with series composer Akira Yamaoka providing the soundtrack and consulting on the game's look and feel.

Yamaoka finds the switch ironic, as Silent Hill was their attempt "at making classic American horror through a Japanese filter," where... More »

The official Sony website has been updated with the changelog for update 1.92 and simply states:

"Playability status with the PS3 system has changed for some PLAYSTATION2 format titles."
Further fueling speculation is that the update addresses the freezing issue within Warhawk, and contains no other features such as rumoured XMB flash movie backgrounds and faster XMB icon loads.

Two years after taking the helm of Sony Corp., Chief Executive Howard Stringer is quietly preparing a big move to expand the company and challenge rival Apple Inc. in an area that has thus far promised more than it has delivered: video-downloading services.

People familiar with the situation say Mr. Stringer is planning to use Sony's technology-packed PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable videogame machines, along with its Bravia high-definition televisions, to develop products and services to let users download television shows and movies, similar to the way they download music and videos using Apple's iTunes store and iPods.

After posting a less-than-expected second-quarter net loss of $9.3 million last month, THQ reaffirmed its fiscal year 2008 guidance of $1.12 billion to $1.15 billion in net sales. THQ president and CEO Brian J. Farrell told analysts that forecast hinged largely upon the projected platinum status of five internally developed multiplatform games: Frontlines: Fuel of War, MX vs. ATV Untamed, Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights, the latest Destroy All Humans!, and Stuntman: Ignition.

However, selling a million copies for at least one of those games may not be as done of a deal as THQ hoped. In a company note to investors, Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said early sales of Stuntman Ignition were "a little slow off the blocks" and "slower than originally anticipated." Sebastian noted that the over-the-top racer was experiencing a weak sell-through at retail and that restocking orders were "unlikely in the near-future."

However, Sebastian remained optimisti... More »

A Sony Pictures exec has been quoted as saying that he'd love Microsoft to join the Blu-ray revolution.

"We would love to have Toshiba and Microsoft on board," Don Eklund, almost in charge of advanced technologies, said in an interview. "Toshiba can't keep dropping prices much more. It maybe a strategy for fighting a format war, but for us it has to be profitable."

Eklund also made some comments about potential for the Blu-ray / HD DVD format war to be eclipsed by movie downloads.

"People aren't interested in downloading videos at the moment," he said. "The internet is a good way of delivering music but not video. Blu-ray has a good 8 to 10 years before the internet catches up."
