Sony converted a downtown Toronto art gallery into PlayStation 3 heaven Tuesday afternoon by outfitting the space with demo stations for dozens of games slated to be released over the holiday months.
Centre stage went to Sony exclusives like Resistance 2, the sequel to the PlayStation 3's top launch title. The second game in this popular sci-fi shooter series continues the story of WWII-era American trooper Nathan Hale as the fight against alien invaders moves from Europe to the United States.
There were half a dozen demo pods running the game, but a pack of excited reporters barred me from taking a turn at the stick. However, the detailed burnt out buildings and horrifically creepy aliens I managed to catch glimpses of over players' shoulders left me with the impression that Resistance 2 could be one of the most visually sophisticated console games of the season.
A first-party game that I did get some controller time on was MotorStorm: Pacific R... More »

Per Nigel Kershaw (Game Director, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift) today via PS Blog:
Today the staff at Evo are doing a little dance and breathing a huge sigh of relief. For today is the day of our fist gold master candidate, which as I write this is winging its way to assorted testers around the world ready for them to give MotorStorm: Pacific Rift one last hammering. This isn’t the end, chances are there still a few bugs to be fixed, but we’ve finished dessert, and are now just waiting for coffee and the bill. Phew.
But rather than browsing through vacation brochures, I thought this impasse would be best spent writing a few blog posts which answer some of the questions that have been floating around the internet about Pacific Rift. The first one of which I noticed is how many people I’ve seen decrying the fact the lovely little pause camera from the first game isn’t present in the recent demo.

The PlayStation 3’s Platinum Games line-up just keeps getting better. After the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, you can now race around Paradise City for less with Burnout Paradise joining the ranks.
When PS3 Platinum Games were first announced last month, Burnout Paradise strangely made it on to advertising posters, banners etc, but it never really showed up in stores. But it’s here now and should be in stores across India by the end of September at a discounted price of Rs 1,499.
Interestingly, Burnout Paradise is still not a Platinum title in the UK, which is strange because in such cases, India usually mirrors SCEE practices. Not that we’re complaining; we now have two decent racing games on the PS3’s Platinum line-up (and no, the other one is not NFS ProStreet).
When gamers catch glimpse of a game that hasn't been announced it's cause for much excitement. When a PSP version of MotorStorm appeared on UK retailer GAME's Web site Sony fans thought they'd stumbled upon something they weren't supposed to know about, but it seems we've all got excited over nothing.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com this morning, a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson has confirmed that the listing is a mistake and that it will be removed shortly. So there you go.
Maybe the fan excitement over the listing will give Sony a reason to consider bringing the MotorStorm series to PSP in the future, but it's not happening just yet.
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is scheduled for release on PS3 later this year.
Here’s the response from Sony regarding PlayStation sales for August.
PS3 continued to generate impressive sales in August 2008, with 185,353 hardware units sold. From January to August 2008, more than 2 million PS3s have been sold in the U.S., representing a year-to-date hardware sales growth of more than 92%. Software sales were also strong for PS3, with 1.6 million units sold, representing a year-over-year growth of 92%
• Electronic Arts Sports’ Madden NFL 09 proved to be a hot seller on PlayStation platforms in August, with more than 1.1 million copies purchased by PlayStation customers, not including the Madden NFL 09 ® (PlayStation® Portable) Entertainment Pack. 643,000 units of the popular sports title were sold for PS3 alone, a 33% higher attach rate than Xbox 360 and representing an increase of 90% year-over-year when compared to Madden NFL 08 sales for PS3 in August 2007.
• Following its launch on July 29, more than 263K copie... More »
