Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein passed along some news he received from EA today as follows:

Mirror’s Edge developer DICE is planning a special treat for PLAYSTATION 3 owners. When downloadable content for the game is released in late January, they’ll make an exclusive Time Trial map available free, only for PS3.

More info on the DLC from EA:

Players will be challenged to achieve the fastest times possible on nine races across seven all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps. No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner.

I think the video says it best:

This special DLC pack will be available for $10. Look for an update on the PlayStation.Blog right before it hits the PlayStation Store.

They’re bum rushing again; a cascade of gnawing, screaming, snarling, sicken bodies fly through every open crevasse of a charming little house that has become a barricade of fortitude against the undead.

All this because one of our token heroes made a last minute smash and grab for some ammo, broke up the typecast quartet, and was welcomed by a sludge of zombie pheromone vomit to the face.

If Half-Life and its sequel spelled the advent of the videogame sense of the cinematic, capturing the filmic while never using its exact form, then Left 4 Dead runs with developer Valve’s legacy to uncultivated territory.

On the surface it’s what you’ve come to expect, with perfectly placed spectacle and the crescendos in pace to match. But Left 4 Dead also takes that cinematic inheritance a logical step further, by slyly inserting an omniscient Director who puppeteers and schemes to abash your foursome’s every cooperative move.

If we look back on 2008 and start ticking off the top names of 2009, one will want to assume that the PlayStation 3 has the momentum.

Not only does it have the obvious exclusive edge over Microsoft's Xbox 360, but it has several other factors going for it.

It's $200 cheaper than it was upon launch two years ago, the launch of the PlayStation Home open beta is scheduled for this month, Blu-Ray has won the HD movie war (and it's certainly the more preferable software format for games), the PlayStation Network and Store have taken gigantic strides, the machine is far more reliable than the 360, and yes, as we just said, the exclusives have really been impressive.

We saw Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Resistance 2, Wipeout HD, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Valkyria Chronicles, and LittleBigPlanet this year and we can expect Killzone 2, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, the recently unveiled Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Heavy Rain... The new version of YDL was released. I think the most important new feature is that you can now use the memory of the RSX-GPU as a swap partition.

You should notice a great increase of speed while using linux.

The free version can be downloaded in four weeks. For now only owners of YDL.net Enhanced Accounts can access YDL 6.1.

Press Release: AUSTIN, Texas - 19 November 2008 - From the show floor of SuperComputing 2008, booth #1915, Fixstars today released Yellow Dog Linux v6.1 for Apple G4/G5, Sony PLAYSTATION3, PowerStation, and IBM Power Systems. Built upon the CentOS foundation, a derivative of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, YDL v6.1 offers several end-user and development tool improvements over the previous v6.0.

"This marks the final release of Yellow Dog Linux by Terra Soft and the first by Fixstars," states Owen Stampflee, Fixstars Solutions' Director of Engineering, "In my five years with Terra Soft we have made incremental impro... More »

Why EA would promise both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners fresh DLC, when everybody knows that Mirror's Edge PS3 is getting the exclusive?

We asked our friendly neighborhood EA representative.

To quote: “It’s downloadable content for both platforms,” a spokesperson told GameCyte.

While PS3 might well have some token exclusive DLC (just look at how EA is handling Dead Space), DLC in and of itself will apparently not be exclusive.

According to Big_T of NeoGAF Forums (linked above) he has gotten his hands on the hotly anticipated new IP from EA and has posted some pics.

To quote: "Just got the game, I don't care about the length of the game. I played the demo 4 hours :)

btw the installation for the game is 486MB.. when you start new game you choose between easy and normal difficulty, if you complete the story you will unlock the hard difficulty, in hard there is no Runner Vision and combat much tougher."

As mentioned yesterday, Mirror's Edge is set to officially arrive for PlayStation 3 on November 11 and XBox 360 on November 14, 2008 so it appears some retailers are selling it a day early.

One pic of the pack and PS3 disc is below, with the rest at the above link. Enjoy!

After downloading and spending a good hour with both Demo versions of Mirrors Edge, it's clear Dice Studios are headed in the right direction in terms of gameplay. In terms of Graphics, Mirrors Edge has a fantastic art style to it that compliments the unique gameplay and control mechanics.

Of course, like the majority of Multi-platform releases, there were a few differences between the versions, specifically in the Graphics department. Here's what I noticed during my playthrough:

- PS3 version has richer and more defined colors than the Xbox 360 version.
- PS3 version has slightly sharper textures (Not to be confused with jaggies, which brings me to my next point).
- Xbox 360 version has slightly less jaggies than the PS3 version.

Overall, both versions look great, and while the PS3 version edges out the Xbox 360 version, it's not a big enough difference to claim one version completely floors the other.

Mirror's Edge will ... More »
