247w ago - Developed by Kojima Productions and designed exclusively for the iPhone and iPod Touch systems, Metal Gear Solid Touch covers the final chapter in the legendary saga of Solid Snake in an intuitive touch-based shooting game.
Following the deep and immersive storyline of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, players join forces with Old Snake as he battles the money-driven mercenaries of Private Military Companies (PMCs), Haven Troopers, Gekko units, and the beautiful yet terrifying bosses of the Beauty and Beast Corps.
Press Release: Touch of class for Metal Gear Solid
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced further details regarding Metal Gear Solid Touch - a bespoke Metal Gear title for the iPhone and iPod Touch, devised by series creator Hideo Kojima. It will be released across Europe from March 19th for just 4.99 Euro.
This tale of commercial warfare adventure follows Old Snake across the Middle East, South America, Eastern Europe, and Shadow Moses as he depletes his enemies' stamina with various short-range and long-range weapons. Featuring twenty levels of gameplay and well-known antagonists from past Metal Gear Solid titles, Metal Gear Solid Touch marks a welcome debut of the stealth-action franchise for the iPhone and iPod.
259w ago - Metal Gear Solid Touch has likely caused a lot of heads to be scratched across the game industry today - a full on MGS game on a fledgling platform that features a couple decent titles and approximately eight squillion one-shot gimmicks?
Don't tell that to MGS director Hideo Kojima. Along with MGS Touch creative producer Yasuyo Watanabe, the man sees great opportunity in the tiny device - in fact, when the game is released next spring, he hopes it opens up an entirely new userbase for his games.
Here are a few choice excerpts from the interview with Kojima and Watanabe published in Famitsu magazine this week:
This is Watanabe's first "real" game. Up to now, she was Kojima Productions' chief Web designer, working on a variety of Flash stuff for the site.
Kojima: She almost never give me any lame ideas during presentations; she has a good sense for that sort of thing. Around the time I noticed that, the iPhone was released and started to become a major movement. I'm a huge fan of the iPod and Apple products in general, so if they're putting out a game platform, then naturally I want to compete on it - and I thought that her design sense would work perfectly on the iPhone.
The game, a shooter set in the world of Metal Gear Solid 4, is controlled entirely...
259w ago - Update: It's now confirmed, the next Metal Gear game will indeed be on the iPhone, and it's called Metal Gear Solid Touch.
What's more, courtesy of Konami we now have some details on the game. It's an original title set in the MGS4 universe, and consists of 8 stages (with the promise of more to be made available later).
It's obviously controlled via the touchpad (as opposed to the accelerometer), with a sniping screenshot looking a lot like the iPhone's zoom-in text editing setup.
MGS obsessives will be well catered for, with bonus points accrued through gameplay able to be traded in to unlock stuff like Metal Gear iPhone wallpapers. It's due for a worldwide release in Spring 2009.
