For years, the Tokyo Game Show has been the one show on the calendar you can bet Sony is going to put on a performance.

Okay, they may have had a few issues in the past (overheating PS3s) but in general, TGS is their best show of the year. They nearly always headline the keynote and usually announce something or other.

This year, however, I can't help but feel that Sony isn't trying. Firstly, conceding the keynote to Microsoft is bad news, especially on home soil. With no major announcements from Sony, it was up to the publishers to deliver. At Square Enix, they had a closed cinema screening showing a trailer of their upcoming titles.

Problem was, the queue took forever and the film was too long (around 20 minutes). They showed all their development projects, of which half I'm sure most were uninterested in. There were no playable next-gen titles outside of the 360 area and the Square Enix booth was right next to Microsoft's.

Numerous amounts of gamers are reportedly requesting to Sony that they release the new PS3 firmware ASAP as v2.42 is causing them loads of issues. The reported issues range from no discs being read to problems of going online.

To quote: Personally our PS3 is just fine but then we have not had much time with it since the latest firmware. This is what some gamers have reported to PR:

Well this is totally Effed Up!!! My son decided that it would be a good idea to update the PS3 and he did 2 nights ago without me knowing it. Well now ANYTHING BLURAY does NOT play. NOTHING!!! Doesn’t even recognize the DAMN Disc!!! Is there anything I can do???

Installed this newest update and now nothing works, can not read disks at all. We have done the system restore, etc. now have to wait while it gets shipped to Sony to fix it.

GCNHacker87 posted a demo video on YouTube of the new Ocarina cheat app for Nintendo Wii, for the homebrew channel which lets users simply use 'discovered' codes. Basically it's similar to an Action Replay, only free... All you need is an SD Card!

Download: Ocarina Wii Cheat App

From the ReadMe: Ocarina is a very simple Wii application for your homebrew channel. What it does? Start a game.. but there's a twist of course.

Ocarina checks the GAME ID.. like RZDP01 for Zelda Twilight Princess (PAL). Then it checks the inserted SD card whether it can find a cheat code file for that game: in this case it would have to be name [sd]:codesrzdp01.gct.

To create GCT files.. a PC application is bundled in the package. This application is coming with 2 example files. rsbe.txt and rsbp.txt (Smash Brothers NTSC-U and PAL respectively). Using the File men... More »

Now in her eighth year of gaming writing, and already a respected name in the computer and console game industry, gaming doyenne Vanessa Morgan has taken up the coveted role of Editor of one of the biggest and most popular gaming magazines in Australia and New Zealand, Official PlayStation® Magazine.

We had a chat to Vanessa about what it's like to be the first female Editor of Official PlayStation® Magazine, what the coolest part of her job is, what her favourite games are and where she sees the future of PLAYSTATION®3.

Read on for the full story from Miss PlayStation herself...

1. How long have you been in the games industry for? How did you get into it?

Eight years. That's way, way, way too many years of playing all the average games that none of the guys wanted to touch for mags like Hyper, PCPP, PSW, Total Gamer, etc. Followed by getting a few breaks with overseas trips to see what was SquareSoft then Nintendo and E3.... More »

So, we got the new PS Store today... in short, it's lovely. From the little 'plinky' piano sound when it opens, to the nice fading page animations - it's a joy to navigate.

However, while navigating is a joy, Sony Europe have made their usual hash of things - their categorization completely sucks.

On the UK store the main categories are:

Latest
All Games
Game Add-Ons
Videos
PSP Games
Family Games
'other' media (what?!)
We recommend

This is just crazy... so if you're looking for a demo, you need to either go to latest, or if it's not there, look in all games - which are sorted into sub groups by genre, not title. Also, all PSOne games are mixed in with the genres... so if you want a PSone game you need to find it in the melange of other titles... is Sony Europe bonkers?

On the USA store:

New Releases
Downloadable Games
