PS4 Group Messaging Bug Could Corrupt Consoles, Possible Fixes

400°
13w ago - Today nyteryder79 shared news on a PS4 Group Messaging Bug that could corrupt PlayStation 4 consoles alongside some possible PS4 fixes below, as follows:

PSA: Avoid group messaging on your PS4. There is a bug on the PSN side. This bug ended up corrupting my PS4 and I had to reinitialize and redownload everything!

So, 4 of my buddies and I were in a group chat that we've been using since the release of the PS4 in the U.S. We would post screenshots and just general chat. Then for some unknown reason, I couldn't add any more messages to the chat session; I also couldn't delete it, contribute to it in any way or change it's title.

The next day, I couldn't send or receive any messages from anyone, including party invites in CoD, party invites on PS4, etc. I would get the notification, but the new messages wouldn't appear in my message list. The PlayStation app could see the messages, but I couldn't do anything with them there either. When I tried, I got error messages when I tried to submit a response, delete it, etc.

After about an hour of gaming, my PS4 switched to a blue screen and started to rebuild the database, which took about an hour. When it was finished, it said my database was corrupt.

So, I turned the PS4 off, booted into safe mode and attempted...

Video: Make a Mess of Your PlayStation 3 with Germinator

50°
78w ago - Vice President of Development for Creat Studios Scott Hyman has posted up a fresh video today of Germinator for the PlayStation 3 console with details below on the PlayStation Move title.

To quote: Hey gang - I'm back to announce a great new game that features a killer twist on the bubble genre. Something messy and contagious is festering in suburbia, and there's only one hero who can save the day: The Germinator!

No more of that old school Match-3. While three of a kind won't help you in Germinator, you will need to crash your germ bubbles into those of the same color.

Upon collision, they'll combine and grow, GROW, GROW until they POP - gooey, splotchy, splattering pops. Be sure to pop them quickly before they get too big and overrun the house. Timing and accuracy is the key to preventing the various germs from rising too high.

Germinator features a crazy cast of multi-colored bubble germs with their own personalities and traits. Making them pop the right way triggers combos to explode them all and make a mess of your screen. Dozens of levels and power-ups will keep you coming back to clean house. Local multiplayer lets you battle your friends or the AI.

Video: Anonymous Send Message to Sony Regarding SOPA Bill

1000°
120w ago - Despite some members being arrested a few months back, Internet hacking group Anonymous have now sent Sony a message in the form of a video (below) regarding the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) bill.

This comes just a week after reports of a SOPA-style court order for India's ISPs to block some of the world's largest file-sharing sites including BitTorrent, Megaupload and more.

Shortly following, GoDaddy announced their support for SOPA resulting in thousands of domain owners prompting to leave the registrar, including giant networks such as Wikipedia and Cheezeburger which consists of over 1000 domains alone.

To deal with the large volume of domain transfers, GoDaddy began blocking (and in some cases delaying)...

Sony Chief Information Security Officer Warns of Network Breach

700°
131w ago - Today Sony's SVP and PSN Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger has issued an official warning that PlayStation Network security appears to once again be breached.

To quote: We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment ("Networks") services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database.

These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources.

In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts' valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts.

Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts...
