Sony Targets an Older Audience in New PS3 Marketing Campaign

243w ago - Today Sony PlayStation has launched a European online campaign to position the PS3 console to an older audience.

The new marketing campaign highlights that the PS3 can be used for more than just playing games, to generate appeal to a more mature crowd.

Those interested can check it out at the official site: [Register or Login to view links]

To quote: It asks visitors their interests and then plays back the unique selling points of the console through an interactive presenter. Visitors to the site are then invited to create their own video to send onto friends based on their particular needs.

The campaign will also include social media, search and online advertisng.

Christian Noer, Nordic marketing manager at PlayStation, said, "This is a modern twist on a traditional 'elevator sales pitch'. As we broaden the PlayStation's appeal to a wider group of consumers, we just feel our audience needs a little bit of help selling the full range of capabilities to their wives, mums or girlfriends."

Sony to Launch Huge European PlayStation 3 Marketing Campaign

50°
254w ago - Sony is set to launch an £82m pan-European marketing campaign for the PlayStation 3, firing the first advertising salvo against rivals Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox as consumers start to think about presents for Christmas 2009.

The TV element of the campaign, which has been developed by the TBWA agency, marks a departure from Sony's traditional tactic of often esoteric and dark commercials.

To quote: The new set of TV ads, the first of which launch in the UK tonight, focus on the simpler aim of describing the range of services available on the PS3. These include online gaming and Blu-ray movies, downloading TV and film content and being able to watch the BBC iPlayer.

"Two years after launch, PlayStation 3 is realising its full potential," said Alan Duncan, UK marketing director. "The console is moving beyond gaming and gaming is moving beyond discs."

Micromania Receives New PlayStation 3 Slim Marketing Posters

50°
255w ago - French Web site UltimatePS3.fr (linked above) is reporting today that marketing posters have arrived at French retailer Micromania promoting the stock of "New PlayStation 3s".

This comes just days after the PS3 Slim was discovered in a Micromania database listing.

The posters give no details on price or dates, and the price is to be filled in at the retailer's own discretion.

To quote, roughly translated: While doubts remained about the arrival of a new model of PS3, we learn by a member of our forum Micromania received this morning a POP (picture support) aimed at promoting a new model. We knew the price was about to fall, now it is assumed that a new version of the console will be marketed.

This now removes any ambiguity: a new model of PS3 will land in our stores! The scenario that emerges is that the PS3 "Old" to 299 euros, the PS3 "New" to 399 euros. Confirmation or denial tonight with the press conference of Sony, for each of 19-hour Ultimate PS3.

Please note that to date, if the buzz of the web a new model called the "Slim PS3", this expression is currently seen anywhere.

Sony Finally Finds Smart Marketing for the PlayStation Portable

250°
263w ago - It appears the idea of console exclusives is over with the recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for PlayStation Portable.

The Nintendo DS version has been out on the market since March 17, 2009, plenty of time for the Grand Theft Auto fanatic to either purchase the game for the DS or go and buy a Nintendo DS just so it could be played.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is the third GTA title to release on the PlayStation Portable after GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories. It makes sense on a business level for Sony to start pushing for more titles on the PlayStation Portable, and even more so the upcoming PSP Go.

Sony needs to properly support the PSP Go from launch. They cannot afford to release the new PSP and leave it on the market for a couple months before properly supporting it. This is primarily because of the PSP Go's lack of UMD drive.

Granted, gamers could use the PlayStation Store to download PSOne Classics or even some older PSP titles onto the PSP Go, but where will the money be at? The new downloadable titles. With Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars releasing around the same time, there is a title that will help sell the PSP Go for early...
