Fantasy RPG Runemaster Makes Console Debut on PlayStation 4

7w ago - EPOS Game Studios CEO Olof Gustafsson announced today that Fantasy RPG Runemaster is making its console debut on PlayStation 4.

Below are the details, to quote: Some pretty exciting news coming out of Gamescom this week! We at Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studios are bringing our upcoming role-playing game Runemaster to PS4.

There are a lot of 'firsts' to note here. This is the first role-playing game developed entirely by Paradox Development Studio, a group best known for its deep historical strategy games, like Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.

It's also the first time that a Paradox developed title will be designed with both PCs and a current generation console in mind. Paradox Interactive has already announced that Magicka 2 will be coming to PS4, so 2015 will be an exciting year for Paradox and Sony.

What is Runemaster? As befits a Swedish developer, Runemaster is a fantasy role-playing game set in the exciting and darkly tragic world of Norse myth.

Drawing on Viking sagas and the Eddas of Viking bards, Runemaster tosses the player into the chaotic worlds of legend - Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, and so on - as the universe threatens to come to an end. Ragnarok could be coming and the player can choose to prevent this world-smashing...

Ruffian Games: Hollowpoint Makes Console Debut on PlayStation 4

7w ago - Ruffian Games Creative Director Billy Thomson announced today that Hollowpoint is making its console debut on PlayStation 4!

To quote: Ruffian Games are an experienced console developer based in Dundee, Scotland. it's great to branch out and work with a new partner like Paradox.

We're all massive fans of PS4, and releasing a game on Sony's platform is an added bonus that is hugely exciting for Ruffian's Hollowpoint team.

Hollowpoint is a highly tactical, four player co-operative action game featuring a blend of fast paced 2D platform shooter gameplay - directional aiming - with precision based 3D shooter gameplay - pin point reticle aiming.

The goal is to build the most feared and respected Organization there is. Organizations are made up of skilled Operatives - the Mercenaries of the 22nd Century - and all of the different types of Ability, Weapons, Equipment, and Powerups they need to complete their Missions.

In this world, the Mega Corporations are engaged in relentless corporate warfare - hiring Organizations like yours to do their bidding. Take on Missions to earn XP and Credits - both of which are essential to improve your Organization.

You can go it alone on these Missions, but in order to complete the most dangerous and lucrative ones, you'll...

Video: How DriveClub Aims to Make Rage-quitting Extinct on PS4

50°
17w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton outlined how they plan to make rage-quitting extinct in DriveClub DriveClub on PS4 today.

To quote: We've all been there. You're tearing round the last lap in, say, Gran Turismo or Need For Speed, defending a narrow lead over the chasing pack, when your concentration slips for a second and you find your car buried in a hedge.

With the race all but lost and any rewards snatched away, it's understandable that throwing a quick tantrum and furiously jabbing Options > Quit Race can be an instinctive reaction.

The racing game rage-quit is a real conundrum for designers - not only does it rip you out of the game and compromise your enjoyment, but it also inhibits the integrity of the online multiplayer experience. Duly, it's an obstacle that Evolution Studios is tackling head on in DRIVECLUB on PS4.

"I like the idea that that you don't have to be in first place," explained Game Director Paul Rustchynsky when we stopped by the studio last week. "I want everybody to enjoy the thrill of racing."

"I play a lot of racing games and I'm a pretty good driver, but I'm not always the guy who's in first place. I like to have fun and take risks, rather than obsess about perfecting every single corner. The problem for drivers like me, and I think we're...

Thirteen years ago, Harmonix created our first music game - [Register or Login to view links] for PS2. It wasn't a commercial hit at the time, but fans and critics loved it.

Even so, we knew we could do better. We polished, tweaked, and tightened the experience, and in 2003, we released Frequency's sequel, Amplitude. I was the Art Director and part of the "design cabal" for the original title, and I'm excited to be the Creative Lead for this updated version of Amplitude!

If you missed the original release, Amplitude is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride through an all-digital landscape, where musical notes have been "silenced" by encapsulating...
