Video: How DriveClub Aims to Make Rage-quitting Extinct on PS4

50°
13w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton outlined how they plan to make rage-quitting extinct in DriveClub DriveClub on PS4 today.

To quote: We've all been there. You're tearing round the last lap in, say, Gran Turismo or Need For Speed, defending a narrow lead over the chasing pack, when your concentration slips for a second and you find your car buried in a hedge.

With the race all but lost and any rewards snatched away, it's understandable that throwing a quick tantrum and furiously jabbing Options > Quit Race can be an instinctive reaction.

The racing game rage-quit is a real conundrum for designers - not only does it rip you out of the game and compromise your enjoyment, but it also inhibits the integrity of the online multiplayer experience. Duly, it's an obstacle that Evolution Studios is tackling head on in DRIVECLUB on PS4.

"I like the idea that that you don't have to be in first place," explained Game Director Paul Rustchynsky when we stopped by the studio last week. "I want everybody to enjoy the thrill of racing."

"I play a lot of racing games and I'm a pretty good driver, but I'm not always the guy who's in first place. I like to have fun and take risks, rather than obsess about perfecting every single corner. The problem for drivers like me, and I think we're...

17w ago - Harmonix Art Director Ryan Lesser invites fans to help make Amplitude happen on both PS4 and PS3 video game platforms.

Below are the details, to quote: Ryan Lesser here, Art Director at Harmonix, and I have some awesome news that I wanted to share with PlayStation fans.

We are launching a [Register or Login to view links] to fund a new version of our DualShock-controlled rhythm-action PlayStation 2 classic, [Register or Login to view links], for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and we need your support!

Thirteen years ago, Harmonix created our first music game - [Register or Login to view links] for PS2. It wasn't a commercial hit at the time, but fans and critics loved it.

Even so, we knew we could do better. We polished, tweaked, and tightened the experience, and in 2003, we released Frequency's sequel, Amplitude. I was the Art Director and part of the "design cabal" for the original title, and I'm excited to be the Creative Lead for this updated version of Amplitude!

If you missed the original release, Amplitude is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride through an all-digital landscape, where musical notes have been "silenced" by encapsulating...

Video: KickBeat Never Ends - How to Make Your Own KickBeat Tracks

50°
54w ago - Zen Studios Community Manager Bobby Loertscher posted up a video today demonstrating to fans how to make your own KickBeat tracks.

Below are the details, to quote: In case you haven't heard, KickBeat is coming out for PS Vita and PS3 on September 3 and supports Cross-Buy.

If you are headed to PAX in a few weeks, make sure to stop by the PlayStation booth and play the game before it releases! HUGE thanks to Sony for having us in their booth at PAX!

One of the coolest things about KickBeat is that the game really never ends. Yes, we give you 18 licensed tracks in the single player campaign, but we thought that many of you would love to experiment with your own music and make your own KickBeat levels.

If you really want to beat your enemies to the latest Bieber track, well, you can do that in the privacy of your own screen.

The process of creating your own KickBeat tracks is quite simple and we do 99% of the work for you. We made a nice little video outlining the process of using your own music to make KickBeat tracks:

We have been experimenting with many different kinds of music, ranging from classical to rap, dubstep and even metal. It's really fun to see what kind of fight...

200°
95w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has shared a Dead Space 3 interview with fans today announcing that the Sci-fi Survival Horror Multiplayer game is getting a make-over.

Below are the details, to quote: Next February sees the release of the third main entry in EA's critically lauded sci-fi survival horror series, [Register or Login to view links].

While the first two games followed very similar templates, the latest installment really mixes things up by introducing full co-op play to the main campaign.

The optional drop-in, drop-out multiplayer lets a second player join in the story as new character Sergeant John Carver. While the game is fully playable as a solo experience, if you play with friend you'll have an expanded story and get to experience a number of extra sequences and set-pieces.

We sat down with the game's producer Steve Papoutsis to find out how - and why - developer [Register or Login to view links] has implemented this new system and what fans of the series can expect from reluctant hero Isaac Clarke's latest adventure.

PlayStation.Blog: What goals did you set yourself when you first started work on Dead Space 3?

Video: Make a Mess of Your PlayStation 3 with Germinator

50°
97w ago - Vice President of Development for Creat Studios Scott Hyman has posted up a fresh video today of Germinator for the PlayStation 3 console with details below on the PlayStation Move title.

To quote: Hey gang - I'm back to announce a great new game that features a killer twist on the bubble genre. Something messy and contagious is festering in suburbia, and there's only one hero who can save the day: The Germinator!

No more of that old school Match-3. While three of a kind won't help you in Germinator, you will need to crash your germ bubbles into those of the same color.

Upon collision, they'll combine and grow, GROW, GROW until they POP - gooey, splotchy, splattering pops. Be sure to pop them quickly before they get too big and overrun the house. Timing and accuracy is the key to preventing the various germs from rising too high.

Germinator features a crazy cast of multi-colored bubble germs with their own personalities and traits. Making them pop the right way triggers combos to explode them all and make a mess of your screen. Dozens of levels and power-ups will keep you coming back to clean house. Local multiplayer lets you battle your friends or the AI.
