Police in New Zealand have questioned a teenager believed to be the ringleader of an international cyber-crime group.
The group is alleged to have infiltrated more than one million computers and skimmed millions of dollars from people's bank accounts.
The teenager, who is 18, cannot be named for legal reasons but was known by an alias as "Akill".
He was detained as part of an FBI crackdown on hi-tech criminals who run botnets - networks of hijacked PCs.
Global crackdown
After being questioned "Akill" was released without charge, but police say he is still being investigated.

Ubisoft Spokesperson Michael Beadle has commented that Ubisoft doesn't know what exactly is causing the freezing problems on Assassin's Creed for the PS3. Ubisoft is investigating the matter but noted a drop in complaints from PS3 gamers who turned off the automated loging feature of PSN.
To quote: We spoke with Michael Beadle, Ubisoft’s senior public-relations manager, about the freezing problems. He says Ubisoft is investigating the matter and is not exactly sure what’s causing the glitches.
The company noted a drop in complaints once PS3 gamers noticed that turning off the automated login feature on the PlayStation Network, or PSN, reduced the number of crashes. We tried this, but the game still crashed.
Ubisoft is working on a patch for the problems using feedback from gamers and blogs, Beadle says.

Defining the Japanese videogame market was no easy task for the man who introduced the country to the RPG.
Henk Rogers arrived in Japan in 1976, young, jobless and hot on the tail of a girl. Within eight years he’d have written, designed and coded his first videogame, sold Japan a genre that would go on to dominate its videogame industry creating billions of dollars of worldwide revenue, and, naturally, made the girl his wife. In 12 years, he would discover a game called Tetris at a Las Vegas game show, and would travel to Russia with Nintendo to secure the exclusive rights to market it on consoles. For a man whose only experience of coding was working on mainframe computers as a student and whose only brush with gaming was in pencil-and-paper roleplaying, starting out was no mean feat.
“I was an avid gamer as a student at the University of Hawaii in the 1970s,” he explains. “I’d joke that my minor was in Dungeons & Dragons. We had a gamer’s club c... More »

Web designers making very old mistakes are letting malicious hackers hijack visitors to their sites, say experts.
Many of the loopholes left in the code created for websites have been known about for almost a decade say the security researchers.
The poor practices are proving very attractive to hi-tech criminals looking for a ready source of victims.
According to Symantec the number of sites vulnerable in this way almost doubled during the last half of 2007.
Wholly vulnerable
Kevin Hogan, director of security operations at Symantec, said the bug-ridden web code was putting visitors to many entirely innocent sites at risk.
"It overturns the whole notion that if you stay away from gambling and porn sites you are okay," he said.
The attack that a malicious hacker can carry out via these web code vulnerabilities is known as cross-site scripting (abbreviated as XSS).
