Fun Box is Open!      Poll What Do You Want for Christmas?      Buy, Sell, & Trade Forum Open!
Looks like the New Xbox Experience dashboard update is experiencing some not-so-new Xbox woes. November 19: launch day for the NXE update. Not 24 hours after it went live, complaints
are already piling up.

Various forums online (such as the one linked above) have threads and threads of people reporting anything from connection freezes, slow downs, lock ups, broken TV connections, and so many other different numerical errors that, if all of them were strung together, could potentially measure all the way from Earth to the moon (and back).

There are even reports of brickage - yes, the famed red ring of death is back. Some say it's limited to modded consoles only (no surprise there) but other untainted units seem to be affected by the same problem too.

We've yet to hear any official response from Major Nelson or any of the Microsoft staff. Some say the slow downs are caused by the simple fact of surging traffic accessing XBL, but the oth... More »

Konami announced today that the Meme expansion should be available for download next week. November 25th to be exact, which places the release on a Tuesday. I would have expected it on a Thursday, but I suppose most be too busy with the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Meme expansion of course adds three new maps to Metal Gear Online, along with two new characters; Revolver Ocelot and the lovely Mei Ling, who has the means to transfix enemies by strutting her stuff.

While my experience with the XBox 360 version of Bethesda's Fallout 3 was rather pleasant, PlayStation 3 owners don't seem to be getting on nearly as well.

Complaints of choppy frame rates and graphical glitches are peppered throughout Bethesda's forums for the game, with others complaining about random lock ups and various other issues - textures not loading, significant slowdown etc.

Two major bugs have already been addressed by Bethesda in the forums, one concerning the game freezing during the GOAT test earlier in the game, and another dealing with the game pausing whenever a PS3 notification occurs. The first issue can apparently be solved by saving and restarting, while they suggest turning off notifications in the XMB for the second.

We've contacted Bethesda regarding these issues, specifically inquiring as to the possibility of a patch to fix problem with the PS3 versio... More »

After unveiling the first details nearly two weeks ago of FROM Software's Demon's Souls, PS3FanBoy has now made available a hands-on review from this year's Tokyo Game Show as follows:

Immediately the demo begins and I'm confronted by a character customization screen, allowing me to change various aspects of my appearance. I didn't tinker, mostly because I wasn't sure what did what thanks to the language barrier.

Customizing my appearance would've been a waste of time anyway, as the camera sits behind the character for the majority of the time and his face is hidden by a large medieval helmet.

The gameplay starts in a courtyard in front of a large castle. A small fountain lies ahead, slowing down the game with its unnecessary, though meager, particle effects.

Despite some fairly decent graphics, the game has an overwhelming sense of... More »

And now we come to the final part of our show, wherein you asked questions, and we put them to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, and he answered.

First up came a question regarding region locks on the Nintendo DSi handhelds. And Reggie's answer? "To be honest I don't know for sure, I will look into it." He added that he thinks that the device will be region locked, purely on the fact that the downloads for the system are region based.

Man, I am going to be so damn disappointed if I can't play my copy of Tingle's Balloon Fight on there. Especially after the trouble I went to to get it!

Nintendo has said they will look into it for us, so we'll keep on it sometime in the coming weeks.

Another question was a simple one: The DSi can play music, so can it play MP3s? And the answer is "no, it plays the AAC format. It's an easy conversion."

That may be true, but let's face it, MP3s have the run of societ... More »

High Voltage Software, the company behind development of the much anticipated The Conduit, have said that they want gamer input on how to control The Conduit on Wii. CEO of High Voltage Gaming, Kerry J. Ganofsky had this to say:

From the start of the project our primary goal has been to make the definitive first person shooter for the Wii, and specifically for core gamers. Asking core gamers for their input is just a logical extension of that rationale

The commands are as follows:

• Move Forward/Back
• Strafe Left/Right
• Jump/Activate
• Shoot Weapon
• Target Lock
• Crouch
• Reload Weapon
• Scope/Binocular Mode
• Switch Between Weapons Carried
• Switch Between Grenades Carried
• Pause Menu
• Swap Between Weapon Carried and Weapon on Ground
• Equip ASE (All-Seeing-Eye) / Special

To sum up, the debut of Spore was met with ample applause and plenty of discussion about the Johnny-play-god element of the evolutionary process. All in good fun, of course.

The last several days of Spore’s official real-world introduction have also been chock-full of a pretty astonishing level of spite leveled at Electronic Arts for presenting buyers of the $50 title with restrictive DRM. It’s been reported that EA has allowed for a total of 3 unique activations per consumer for use of the product.

The backlash has been so pronounced that, despite the critical acclaim for the gameplay itself, the game ranks among the most lowly reviewed video games listed in the Amazon store. Some 2,016 out of 2,127 reviewers have chosen to give it a single star. The juxtaposition of this figure against its current #4 sales rate is remarkable in and of itself.

This fact is only compounded by Spore’s performance not only on store shelves but the proliferati... More »
