This confirms previous reports of a PlayStation 3 super slim console coming including those HERE, HERE and HERE at long last.

To quote: Tokyo Game Show is always an exciting time for gamers everywhere, as we all look forward to new games and other news being unveiled during the show.

This year is no exception. We are always looking for ways to create better experiences for our gamers, and to that end, we just unveiled a smaller, lighter PlayStation 3 at the show.

The new PS3 will be available in two different models, with 250GB and 500GB HDDs which will allow you to store even more of your digital life. Lighter PS3 Slim CECH-2100A is Revealed by a Japanese Retailer

500°
215w ago - After reports of two new PS3 Slim models hitting the FCC a few weeks back, today Andriasang.com (linked above) has uncovered news of yet another, lighter, PlayStation Slim model CECH-2100A on the way courtesy of a Japanese retailer.

The slight weight reduction from its current 3.2kg to 3.0kg will be indicated by a change in model number from CECH-2000A to the new CECH-2100A.

To quote: "It's presumable that, aside from just the weight, something else has changed inside the system. Sony often makes minor hardware adjustments, changing the model number in the process.

The retailer expects Sony's PS3 shipments to switch to the new version in March."

PSP Nokia Battery Mod, Lighter And 150% Lifetime of the Original

350°
274w ago - A quick story resulting in a quick hack job... LordLeXaT's PSP battery broke, and with no money to buy a new one, he turned to his MacGyver box set to determine the best possible route... a modification that allows him to use a Nokia battery as follows:

What you see below is a standard Nokia battery (BL-5C) pack used with the original PSP battery control board. So now that all is said and done, LordLeXaT has a longer lasting battery than most of you, or so he says.

"The battery is lighter and has nearly 150% lifetime of the original 1800mAh PSP battery, and by the way, the text of the Nokia battery reads 1020mAh."

We don't have a tutorial for you, but for the most part, it seems straightforward. And please, exercise caution should you attempt this battery mod yourself.

Lighter, more efficient PS3s on the way!

50°
312w ago - Those rumors of a Slim and Lite PS3 may still be unfounded, but lighter and more efficient PS3s are in the making - thanks to "third generation" heat sinks.

Japanese company Furukawa Electric Co recently showcased a new heat sink for the PS3, said to be far lighter, smaller and cheaper than the previous two "generations" of PS3 heat sink.

We won't bore you with specifics because, by and large, heat sinks are about as exciting as snail races. But the graphics chip and CPU in the so-called "third generation" consoles will be cooled by smaller, separate heat sinks, rather than one large one, and weigh a total of 350g, compared with 700g and 500g for the first and second iterations.

The new heat sinks are, according to this, in development now, meaning we should have lighter, more efficient PS3s within months, and you won't need a forklift to lug your new console home from the shops.
