To quote via Wololo: This was kind of out of the blue: Developer acez just posted an article on his blog explaining all the details of the Webkit exploit that was recently revealed for the Vita, describing how he and a group of friends worked on a Webkit vulnerability on the Vita, and leveraged it to run native code. It has been explained to me that although this is the same vulnerability that Davee used for his work, the two groups worked completely separately on their exploits.

The read is extremely interesting, and I won’t pretend I’m able to summarize it in a way that would do it any justice, so I suggest you just read it.

A cynical summary for people like me who have been in the PSP hacking scene previously would be: “ha,...

64w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.

Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site [Register or Login to view links].

Here's a summary of the most relevant points:

  • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
  • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...

Video: Take a High-Level Look at Splinter Cell Blacklist on PS3

200°
71w ago - Community Developer Zack Cooper shared a video today which takes a a high-level Look at Splinter Cell Blacklist on PS3 below.

To quote: Even though it's been such a long road to where we're at right now, it's still hard to believe that Splinter Cell Blacklist will be launching in just over a week!

We understand that more eyes are on us now than ever before - but that doesn't mean they've seen everything we've already put out there.

This video is a solid wrapper, giving you a high-level look at the entire scope of the game: the extensive Single-player campaign, the 14 unique CO-OP missions, and Spies vs. Mercs.

Oh, and it's also narrated by Charlie Cole, the man behind Sam Fisher's gadgets.

Anyway, I won't take up any more of your time. Right now, at least. Once you get your hands on Blacklist, we should take up plenty. Enjoy the video!

God of War: Ascension PS3 Q&A: Taking Kratos to the Next Level

50°
93w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has shared a God of War: Ascension PS3 Q & A update below today which takes Kratos to the next level.

To quote: With God of War: Ascension's launch just a few days away now, we sat down with the game's Lead Combat Designer Jason McDonald and Lead Game Designer Mark Simon to find out how they've kept the formula fresh six games into the series, and what challenges the addition of multiplayer presented to the team.

We'll have more insight from Game Director Todd Papy next week before Santa Monica's lean, mean new actioner hits the shelves on March 12th. In the meantime, over to Mark and Jason...

PlayStation.Blog: How difficult is it retro-fitting a prequel story onto the existing God of War trilogy?

Mark Simon: It's kinda nice actually. At the end of God of War 3 Kratos is completely rage-filled. His sole-focus has been figured out. With Ascension, we can go back to a different time period before he was this character.

He has a wider range and you can explain things about him that you didn't know before. You get to find out what turned him into the guy that he is - what makes him snap, and why is it that breaking a bond with a god like Ares does this.

PSB: If I was to plot Kratos' anger on a graph,...
