157w ago - SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has shared a video interview today spotlighting Kung Fu Live PS3 with the PlayStation Eye.
To quote: Kung Fu Live is the camera-based beat'em-up that will be released on PlayStation Store tomorrow.
It uses the PlayStation Eye to throw you into a comic book world of martial arts, giant enemies and spectacular superpowers.
I recently caught up with Teemu Mäki-Patola, CEO of Virtual Air Guitar Company, to take an early swing at it myself and grab an interview.
Why did Virtual Air Guitar decide to try something so ambitious with its first game, rather than go for something more traditional?
Our background is in university research where we were working on things like virtual reality interfaces, so that's our interest as well as our expertise and we wanted to bring some of that to the gaming market.
We believe that we can use our research to bring new experiences to games, which is why we set up the company.
What are the biggest challenges in producing a camera-based game like Kung Fu Live?
First of all, it's really difficult to get the technology side so perfect that you're confident...
159w ago - Today Virtual Air Guitar Company CEO Teemu Maki-Patola has announced news of an official launch date for Kung-Fu LIVE alongside a new PS3 video trailer.
To quote: After months of demo events across the world from gamescom in Germany to PAX Prime in Seattle, combined with THOUSANDS of cumulative man-hours for our small independent team in Finland, burning the midnight oil and sweating like crazy play-testing our game, we're FINALLY ready to break the news right back here where we started.
What better way to do that than with an all-new trailer? Have a peek at the clip below to see what people have being saying all year, and get the leg up on exactly when you too can literally step into the world of Kung-Fu LIVE and lay the smack down in your living room!
That's right! If you're in Europe, then you can download your way into the action on 8th December. We know it's been a long time coming, and we've always wanted to get this game to you before the last of the leaves hit the ground in 2010.
So, as soon as it's officially too cold to practice your kung-fu moves outside, you'll get an indoor option that will also transport you to a far off land of street thugs, ninja assassins, and four story-tall giants looking to...
173w ago - Virtual Air Guitar Company CEO Teemu Maki-Patola has shared news today that Kung-Fu LIVE is coming to PAX Prime alongside a new PS3 trailer debut.
To quote: The trailer gives PlayStation owners a taste of the epic multiplayer opportunities to pick up a controller and fight a player on-screen. It also adds insight into just how far you can take your costume ideas in Kung-Fu LIVE.
Working on the game this summer has been a non-stop fight to the finish. We've been balancing the physics on all of the interactive items in the new environments and everything is coming along smoothly.
We're spending a ton of time on the soon-to-be-revealed boss battles and on tuning the difficulty levels of different in-game enemies. As a big first step for motion-based gaming, the hard difficulty level will actually be challenging your fighting skills to the max.
As for multiplayer, it's been one of the most fun things to test and tweak in the office. You can see the idea in the trailer with the ninja fighting the bald dude on the left and the blond guy on the right (yours truly). That's just a taste of what you can do in this game.
It can even be expanded to four players using DualShock 3 controllers against one fighter playing...
177w ago - Virtual Air Guitar Company CEO Teemu Maki-Patola has shared a fresh Kung-Fu Live PS3 trailer just in time for Comic-Con 2010.
To quote: Teemu Maki-Patola back to give you the latest update on Kung-Fu LIVE since first showing it off right here on the PlayStation.blog back in May.
With Comic-Con just days away in the US, this week is one of the most exciting times to be a lover of all things comics and video games. With that in mind, we finally wanted to show off a closer look at what it's like to literally step into the pages of a classic pulp action-comic in our latest trailer below!
For those of you PlayStation Eye owners or future PlayStation Move owners, this trailer gives you a better look at exactly how our own Freemotion technology will work when tracking your entire body without any controllers.
As you can see, we always find it's best to let loose when playing the game, and dressing up in your favorite 'bad-ass' outfit is something we definitely recommend. As far as weapons go, the single-player experience is currently controller-free, and players can use their own inanimate objects to take down enemies with much more style!
185w ago - Virtual Air Guitar Company's CEO Teemu Maki-Patola has revealed today on the PlayStation Blog that Kung-Fu Live is coming to the PSN Store later this year and will utilize technology specially developed for PlayStation Eye to create an experience like never before.
To quote: As some of you may have heard, we announced Kung-Fu Live with a playable sneak preview last week in New York. The reception from journalists, as well as gamers, has totally overwhelmed us!
We also found ourselves in the middle of the rising motion gaming discussion as many of the stories call out that our game already does what Natal is trying for: Kung-Fu Live uses full-body skeleton tracking to track the player's moves in real-time.
Thus, people have been saying that our game and tech using the PlayStation Eye is stealing the thunder from Natal. LOL!
With our Freemotion technology and the awesome quality of the PlayStation Eye camera, full-body motion gaming is already here. Kung-Fu Live also scans you inside the game world where you literally become the hero of the game.
There you are boosted with super human abilities, such as being able to jump flips without actually making flips, do high jump kicks, shoot lightning from your hands,...
