At TGS 2008, developer Konami has announced that a new entry in its vampire-slaying Castlevania franchise in is development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, reports ITmedia.
Few details are known at this point. Following a brief teaser trailer depicting a well-dressed man with a glowing red sword, series producer Koji Igarashi commented that he hadn't expected the game to be announced yet.
The new title will mark the first Castlevania game designed for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While the franchise traditionally has players exploring a 2D or 3D castle, the series is soon expanding into the fighting genre with Castlevania Judgment (Wii).
According to the official Japanese SCEJ site, the current closed PlayStation 3 Home BETA is due to end in a matter of weeks, presumably then opening up the final 1.0 version to a wider public.
Additionally, here’s a list of companies that have signed up as partners for Home, providing content, spaces etc:
- IREM
- Activision
- Acquire
- Atlus
- Walt Disney Japan
- SNK
- EA
- Capcom
- Q Entertainment
- Game Republic
- Genki
- Koei
- Konami
- Spike
- Sega
- D3 Publisher
- Tecmo
- Nippon Ichi Software

Finally, Home has a major presence at TGS this year, as can be seen by these photographs from the show.
Still playing Metal Gear Online? If you are, you've probably played the original game and the first expansion "Gene" to death already. It might just be about time for a new expansion; Konami seems to agree.
According to these new magazine scans courtesy of omaru from GameTrailers, MGO's second expansion dubbed "Meme" will feature both Liquid Ocelot and Mei Ling as new prized characters.
Then there are a handful of new maps: Silo Sunset, Forest Firefight and Winter Warehouse. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out what those maps will look like judging by their respective titles. Silo Sunset, however, seems to be set in an area with ruined buildings and not actually inside a massive silo.
A price and date has not been specified, though we can't imagine that a price would be any different from the previous Gene expansion. It looks like the earliest anyone would be getting... More »

If you have paid attention to any of our editorials here at Blend Games since late 2006, you would have noticed a consistent disdain for a particular section of Sony’s business model: their video game marketing section.
Sadly, these guys and gals have done very little to properly promote many of their own first-party games, and in result have managed to create a very sub-par community outside the initial fan-boy hype.
Like everyone else out on the net who have seen viral marketing videos for some of Sony’s exclusives, you sort of wonder why they stop there. In comparison, Microsoft has all sorts of ridiculous marketing ploys surrounding many of their first-party titles, leading up to the game’s release.
In some cases MS will even continue to schedule events, make announcements and continue the viral marketing just past the game’s release, like what they did with Gears of War and Halo 3.
Even now, compare the likes of Gears... More »
Update: Konami also registered “Existence” alone, without a link back to Metal Gear Solid in the USPTO on August 11. “Guns of the Patriots”, Metal Gear Solid 4’s subtitle, was also registered separately.
Siliconera reports: Solid Snake's story is finished, but that doesn't mean Konami is going to seal the Metal Gear Solid franchise in an early grave.
The first sign of a new Metal Gear Solid game comes from the Japanese Trademark database where Konami registered Metal Gear Existence with the boring image on the right. It's made to be used with video games so it's likely, very likely, the name of a future Metal Gear Solid game. Going by the title alone it sounds like we're going to visit the existence - or origins of the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
So, will this be another game starring Big Boss? Let the wild pre-Tokyo Game Show speculation begin!
Fans will be happy to see the official PES 2009 box art has finally been revealed!
The cover star, as previously announced, is Argentinian forward Lionel "Leo" Messi.
As expected, Konami has also hyped up the official UEFA champions league license that they have scored for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.
Finally, the game has an American release date of 11/11/08.
What was once billed as a tool to uplift indie developers has become just another method of trampling the little guy. What happened to XBLA?
What began as a passive experiment with some old arcade classics on the original Xbox has been reborn as one of the gaming industry's premier marketplaces. It seems like such a long time ago when the Xbox Live Arcade re-launched with the Xbox 360. In fact, it's been a little over two and a half years ago since the original Geometry Wars graced our hard drives. So much has changed since then.
Digital distribution on the 360 was hailed as a savior for the small time developers—a method of cutting the tether between big budgets and big ideas. Small projects or risky artistic games that had no chance of making it to retail (a market dominated by photo-realistic sequels and promotional tie-ins) could be made available to the public for cheap via download.
In this way, small teams could produce games within thei... More »
