Knack on PS4: Unlockable Characters and Challenge Modes

50°
40w ago - Sony Game Director Mark Cerny shared details on unlockable characters and challenge modes in Knack on PS4 below today.

To quote: Knack launched alongside PS4 in every territory, and now that there's been some time for the players to get up to speed on our game, I wanted to talk a bit more about the unlockable features waiting within.

As you probably know, there are hidden treasure chests in secret rooms scattered throughout the story which contain random items.

Some of those items are parts of gadgets that will help Knack in his quest; however the treasure chests also contain more exotic items called Crystal Relics.

There are six different types of Crystal Relics, and if you collect enough of one type, you can unlock a special Knack that can be used when replaying the game, or in one of the challenge modes that you unlock upon beating the game.

For example, collecting 15 Ruby Relics unlocks Vampire Knack, who has stronger attacks, but also a weakness - he's slowly melting, Parts drop off his body and he loses health as he fights. He can replenish that health by defeating enemies, so in a sense he's sucking their energy into himself!

So as soon as you collect the required 15 Ruby Relics, you can start the game from the beginning, playing this time...

Mastering Knack's Unlockable Gadgets on PlayStation 4 / PS4

50°
42w ago - Sony Game Director Mark Cerny shared details today on mastering Knack's unlockable gadgets on PlayStation 4 / PS4.

Below are the details, to quote: PS4 released in North America on November 15th, and it was wonderful to see the response! We sold over a million units in the first day, which set a record for any console in the PlayStation family.

Knack released alongside PS4, which was also very nice and a culmination of a lot of hard work! We're excited to have the game out in the wild, so to speak. Now that it's out there, we wanted to take a little time to explain how having friends on PlayStation Network can enhance the game by boosting the number of gadgets you can collect.

There are over sixty secret rooms in Knack, and contained within these rooms are treasure chests - when Knack opens a chest, a random item pops out. Most of these items are parts of gadgets that will help Knack in his quest.

There are eight gadgets in all, and they vary greatly in their difficulty to construct. Simpler gadgets are made of three parts, and the tougher gadgets are made of up to seven parts.

However, you have help! If any of your friends have found this same secret room, you can see the item that they found there. If you'd prefer the item that a friend found - perhaps it's...

Videos: Mark Cerny Confirms Knack Out Today for PS4 / PlayStation 4

50°
44w ago - Sony Game Director Mark Cerny confirmed alongside some new videos that Knack is out today for PS4 / PlayStation 4.

To quote: PlayStation 4 launches; you might say that "next gen" has officially become "current gen"! Game creators have been hard at work, and I think game players have a lot to look forward to.

One of the launch titles is of course Knack, the game that I and the internal Japan Studio have been hard at work on for the last three and a half years. I love character action games, and over the years I've helped create a number of them, including Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation, and Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank on PS2.

Our goal on this project was to bring back that kind of classic gameplay, but with a next-gen twist. Knack has the ability to pick up pieces of the environment and grow larger, so over the course of a level he can grow from a three foot tall "mascot" type character to a thirty foot tall rampaging monster.

This is a kind of gameplay I'd never tried to create before, it gives a very unique feel from the game. We've also focused on the narrative that drives the action - there is a full CGI film worth of story embedded in the game.

We've kept two...

More Ways to Play Knack: PS4 Co-op Mode, Mobile App Detailed

100°
46w ago - Sony Associate Project Manager Nick Accordino shared details today on more ways to play Knack, including a PS4 co-op mode and mobile application as outlined below.

To quote: Hello, everyone. We're just a little over a week away from the launch of PS4, and I can't wait for everyone to finally get their hands on Knack.

If you're looking for a taste of something different, something a little more old-school, Knack is the perfect PS4 game for you. With Knack, not only are we taking gamers back to the days of classic games like Crash Bandicoot, we're also introducing some new and unique ways to experience the game.

We have a unique two-player coop mode that puts a fun twist on traditional co-op games and is a great reason to pick up an extra DualShock 4 controller. If you own a PS Vita, there's of course Remote Play, which can even work in conjunction with our two-player co-op.

We have a fun social connectivity feature that lets you unlock collectibles faster through your network of PSN friends, and finally, we have a brand new standalone mobile game app called Knack's Quest. I'm here to talk about all of these today.

Knack's co-op is a little different from some cooperative games you may have played. From the very beginning, Knack was meant to be both a challenging...

Hands-on with Knack on PS4 / PlayStation 4: Delightfully Deceptive

100°
48w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Knack on PlayStation 4 describing the upcoming PS4 title as delightfully deceptive.

To quote: Just after the titular hero, Knack, punched a goblin clear off the screen, knocking his armor into a nearby river, it hit me: Knack, a PS4 launch title, looks stellar.

It runs as smooth as silk, and brims with details both big and small. With a family-friendly atmosphere and a charming lead character, Knack seems like a great experience for young - or just newer - gamers. But gaming veterans take note: Knack will surprise you.

It was a delightful surprise, of course, softened only by Game Director Mark Cerny's presentation just minutes before our hands-on session, in which he mentioned how tough Knack can be on higher difficulty levels. Cerny and his team want Knack to be enjoyable for all sorts of gamers, including those who expect a fierce challenge in their platformers.

Getting a feel for Knack (And its hero, Knack!) takes minutes, at most. Knack can run, jump, attack, and use super-powered moves fueled by sun stones. Gamers of all skill levels can pick up these controls without a problem. But overcoming the challenges hurled at our hero is a totally different story.

During the latest Knack demonstration,...
