Win! [+1 QP] Add a Public Album & Win!       Buy, Sell, & Trade Forum Now Open!
It all started innocently enough, in the gaming forum section of a non-gaming related website I visit. The fanboys were going at it, spitting venom and vitriol back and forth as they tried to declare their favorite console as being the best choice for everyone.

Someone said that the PS3 simply had “more power” (and that is a direct quote). Others maintained that the PS3 had literally no good games that the 360 didn’t (and I guess for some reason this meant that they thought it never would).

That’s when someone chimed in with the argument that the PS3 is a better buy because it supports 1080p output via HDMI, without having to buy an “Elite” version. Of course, that’s forgetting that the XBOX 360 in all its flavours comes with HDMI output now - including the “Retard” or “Arcade” version.

The point is that the current generation of games are not really full HD anyway. Most of them, at least.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced its 2007 holiday software line-up for PS3, PSP and PS2. The PS3 has 34 retail games and 13 downloadable titles. The PSP list includes two dozen games, and the PS2 has 27 titles. SCEA have listed Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3 as releasing this year, when Midway has told its investors the game shouldn't arrive until 2008.

A Midway representative confirmed today that the company still expects Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3 to be released next year. Also Capcom's Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law for the PSP appears on SCEA's lineup, but that game was officially delayed until January to avoid the crowded holiday release window.

A Capcom representative has since confirmed that Harvey Birdman is set for release on the PS2, PSP, and Wii on January 8.

SCEA's 2007 holiday line-up will include:

PLAYSTATION(R)3
First-Party:
THE EYE OF JUDGMENT(TM)
Heavenly Sword(TM) More »

This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending November 5th, highlight both to-be-released and already released games in a unique demand-specific chart.

Last week saw popularity en masse for EA's Simpsons Game, which suffers a good deal of slippage this week in favor of Assassin's Creed's rush on the top five of every platform on which it's available, while The Orange Box, which spent weeks in the top five, is also displaced. Interestingly, PlayStation 3 is the only applicable platform where Call of Duty doesn't take first, yielding the spot to Assassin's Creed instead.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare still stands at number one in the top five all-platform requests, while Assassin's Creed takes second. The big disruption in the top five rustles Ace Combat 6, Orange Box and Jericho right out, as Timeshift enters third place and Mass Effect takes the fifth spot. Super Mario Galaxy com... More »

September began with a deluge of content being loaded onto Sony's PlayStation Network. In addition to five demos, the first week of the month saw add-on packs for MotorStorm and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Though understandably not as robust, Sony is ending September in much the same way, with add-ons for Ninja Gaiden redux part deux and Phil Harrison's most favorite racer, as well as a pair of demos landing on the PlayStation Network this week.

Tecmo has released its second of three planned add-ons for Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Whereas the Weapon Master add-on tasked players with surviving using a limited set of weapons, the new Speed Master download puts players under a time and power-gauge limit in five survival modes. As with the first, the mode includes leaderboards and is available for $2.99. Fans of Sony Europe's off-road racer now have the Castro Capitano racing truck to cake with mud. As with the four rides released earlier this month, the Castro Capitano costs $0.99 to downlo... More »

Update: Codemasters state: Following a review by the USK ratings board, which declined to give an official rating, Codemasters has decided not to change the artistic vision of the renowned author and filmmaker Clive Barker through cuts and extensive changes.

"Codemasters respects Mr Barker's creative ideas, despite the German distribution and marketing consequences for the title. Therefore Codemasters will release only the PC version of Clive Barker's Jericho in its original form on the 26th of October for adult gamers and Clive Barker fans."

Here's a shocker for you: Clive Barker's Jericho, the ultra-gory horror FPS from Codemasters, is facing a ban from censorship-conscious Germany as its USK ratings board refuses to issue it a rating.

However, unlike the Manhunt 2 ban ordeal which saw Rockstar forced into making changes to the game to receive an acceptable rating, Cod... More »
