16w ago - Housemarque's Mikael Haveri has officially introduced Resogun today at Gamescom 2013, the new PS4 / PlayStation 4 exclusive game!
To quote: Hiya. We are a team of game developers from a company called Housemarque, based in Helsinki, Finland.
You might have heard of us before, especially if you're a PlayStation enthusiast: do Dead Nation, Super Stardust HD or Super Stardust Delta ring any bells?
Our first PlayStation 4 title has been in development for a while now, and getting ready for the next gen debut has been an exciting ride.
Working on the Stardust franchise over the years has been both a challenge and a privilege, but if anything it deepened our love for shoot 'em ups. Gameplay-centric games have a really special place in our hearts, and we try to keep our core audience in mind with each and every new title.
RESOGUN, our new exclusive PS4 game, adds a twist to the shooter genre, and while being very much a "spiritual successor" to the Stardust series, it doesn't shy away from remixing ideas and influences of classic arcade titles such as Defender, Data Storm, or Japanese shmups like DoDonPachi and Death Smiles.
RESOGUN is an intense, fast-pace shooter that expands our love for the genre and represents a sort of culmination of all...
26w ago - Sony Producer Nicolas Doucet posted up a video today introducing The PlayRoom on PS4, and only for PlayStation 4 below!
To quote: Hi everybody! We're excited to unlock the doors to The PlayRoom, a place for fun and innovative PlayStation 4 Camera and DualShock 4 controller experiments!
As we recently announced, the DualShock 4 controller is packed with lots of new features (such as Light Bar, Touch Pad, Motion Sensor, Speaker, improved Dual Motors...). So what happens when we combine these with the PlayStation 4 Camera? Well, let us show you with this new video!
Let's start with the AR Menu. The first thing you will notice is how the Light Bar is tracked by the PlayStation 4 Camera. This allows us to make cool augmentations like these holographic panels, which come out of the controller and appear around you on the screen.
Using the Touch Pad, you can scroll through them and click to make selections. It's easy to use and very responsive, thanks to the high resolution of the Touch Pad.
Another cool finding is one we nicknamed "the sci-fi genie". By rubbing the Touch Pad like a magic lamp, you can summon Asobi, an interactive flying robot who comes out to play in your living room....
41w ago - Designer Mike Bithell has officially introduced Thomas Was Alone today, which is coming soon to both PS3 and PS Vita consoles.
To quote: The first console I ever bought for myself was a PlayStation 2. I remember digesting every single game on the packaged demo disk in fevered anticipation, while saving up the money to buy Metal Gear Solid 2 to go with it. For the record, I always thought Raiden was cool.
Now I've wowed you with my PlayStation fanboy credentials, I hope you'll understand the excitement I feel at uttering the following words: This Spring, Thomas Was Alone is coming to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita (with cross buy).
Which is, if we're honest, ridiculous. I made a game about rectangles and friendship in my free time. I was lucky enough to find some incredible collaborators who made my script sound good, and my environments sound far more awesome than their humble rectangular graphics.
I was shocked when a community formed and people actually played it. According to the Internet, they liked it too.
And, thanks to the cool people at Bossa, Curve and Sony, that game is coming to a console near you, very, very soon.
Thomas Was Alone is a platformer where the goal is simple - get all the characters to their exit portals. You'll find...
55w ago - Playerthree Creative Director David Streek has introduced Chronovolt: a Steampunk Platformer for PS Vita today with a video trailer below!
To quote: Hi everyone. David from Playerthree here, to tell you about Chronovolt - our new PS Vita game debuting on the PlayStation Plus service next week.
Our aim with Chronovolt was to bring a challenging platform adventure to PS Vita, whilst making use of its unique touch interfaces and gyroscopic controls.
From the start, we had a steampunk theme in our heads that could allow us to create worlds and characters with strange machines and futuristic sources of energy. HG Wells' classic sci-fi novel, The Time Machine, was a definite source of inspiration.
A time manipulation concept not only allowed us to jump between very different settings, but was also a perfect fit for the Vita's touch controls, allowing players to manipulate time with their fingers.
On a technical level, we'd also been developing a 'rolling ball' engine to exploit the gyroscopic controls. It seemed a lot more fun than driving Wells' 'time sled' around and, besides, the Daleks had the whole coaster-based-time-travel area...
