112w ago - Today Sony's SVP and PSN Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger has issued an official warning that PlayStation Network security appears to once again be breached.
To quote: We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment ("Networks") services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database.
These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources.
In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.
Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts' valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts.
Recently he has been working on some PS3 QA Flag developments, and below those interested can find both the PS3 IDA Tutorial and NPDRM details.
From his page: PS3 + IDA Tutorial
Extract the contents into your IDA folder. I don't take credit for these plugins and loaders.
Loading a File
There are two file types I'll teach you to load. SPU and ELF files.
SPU files can only loaded in IDA 32bit mode. When you load IDA choose "Go" and drag the file onto IDA. Make sure elf is highlighted at the top. In processor type, choose "IBM SPU Cell Processor: spu." Click set. Click OK. "Undefined or unknown...blabla" yes. You should be good...
281w ago - To begin this week's PS3 Dev briefing, we want to give a follow-up in regards to the PS3 Downgrade PUP's for PS3 TEST/Debug consoles we recently acquired.
Yes, it does work fine, and we have successfully downgraded a PS3 Test to version 1.00! Version 1.00 is quite neutered for a TEST, about the only thing that works is the ability to run code from a DVD/BD, aside from that just about everything is non-functional.
More to come in those regards, including our ability to install and dump Retail PKG's on a Debug PS3 console!
Now onto the rumors: As we all know, many have been trying (but failing terribly) to dump the EEPROM chip inside the PS3's controller.
Our very own talented Courier successfully removed and dumped the chip, a picture of part of the dump is below and it weighs in at only 512 bytes. The theory is that the controller, after the EEPROM is FF'd, would function like the Jig Battery on a PSP. Although we are going to test this for thoroughness, the general consensus among PS3 Devs is doubtful at best.
Simply put, the PSP was limited in what could be...
297w ago - To quote west79: Hi, I would like to inform everybody that the European PSN Store version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has some serious issues about the terms of service user agreement.
First of all, for playing you need to have your PSN Account connected to the network like Warhawk, yes, it means you can't play it offline.
In other news the game can't be shared between different accounts. It's linked only to the PSN user that bought the game itself, while the license doesn't inform the user about this before buying, unlike Warhawk as you can see in this picture I took.
