86w ago - Activision Social Media Manager Dan Amrich has shared details today from Infinity Ward on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) Content Collection 1 and Double XP below!
To quote: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection 1 arrives in the PlayStation Store today, and it brings with it a whole weekend of double XP.
This is the biggest DLC collection in franchise history, offering four multiplayer/Survival mode maps - Piazza, Liberation, Overwatch, and Black Box - as well as two all-new Special Ops missions, Black Ice and Negotiator.
That kind of content doesn't just make itself, so I asked Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, for some insight into how the studio approaches making add-on content for MW3.
Dan Amrich: Everybody has different tastes in maps. When you put together a collection, are you trying to please different groups of fans with specific maps, or do you try to make every map have something for everyone in it?
Mark Rubin: Any map can come up at any time in any game mode, so we never want to make a map that leaves players thinking "this isn't for me."
Even when we design a map like Liberation, which snipers enjoy with its long sight-lines, we still create areas for players who enjoy, say,...
178w ago - Today Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling has detailed the Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Pack Tour for PS3, which is now live on PlayStation Network.
To quote: The second game add-on for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now available on PSN, and brings with it five additional multiplayer maps, including some of the most unique and awesome places you'll ever have a firefight.
As always, we're focused on bringing a little something for everyone in the Resurgence Package. Take Carnival, a desolate and large amusement park that's perfect for objective gametypes and offers some amazing vantage points atop the wooden roller coaster "Dragon's Den" or the looming sniper spot positioned high above "The World Of Tomorrow."
This place is like nothing you've ever seen in multiplayer before, with distinct locations all around the map which are perfect for calling out enemy positions and working tactically with your team.
Fuel is a sniper's haven in this massive desert oil refinery with wide-open areas and extremely long sightlines. If you're running and gunning, stick to the buildings in the center or take the underground tunnel route to get out to the...
197w ago - Infinity Ward studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella who were fired by Activision earlier this week are now suing the publisher for wrongful dismissal, unpaid royalties and the right to control "Modern Warfare-branded games."
They've issued a strongly-worded statement via their lawyers responding to Activision's claims of "insubordination" as follows:
The statement claims that, in Call of Duty and Modern Warfare, West and Zampella created "two of the most successful videogames in history" and, get this, "the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public."
"Activision terminated their employment weeks before they were to be paid substantial royalty payments as part of their existing contracts for Modern Warfare 2" the statement reads.
"Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st" said...
204w ago - According to a VG247 (linked above) source, Infinity Ward is not creating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and is instead working on something "completely new."
It's unclear where the third game will be made if IW really has gone AWOL from the series.
Additionally, MW2 DLC packs are scheduled to release this "spring" as a timed 360 exclusive.
To quote: "Right now we don't have a clue what our next game is going to be, and we won't know what it will be until we finish with Modern Warfare 2, which won't be for a while," studio frontman Rob Bowling told IGN UK.
We were told by one dev source that a Canadian studio was handling it, but another pointed to newly-formed Sledgehammer Games, headed by ex-Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.
Sledgehammer, based in the Bay Area, is currently recruiting for a multiplayer designer with "five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC."
The identity of Sledgehammer's first project is yet to be announced. Activision's only Canadian developer is Vancouver-based Radical Entertainment, the studio behind last year's free-roaming adventure, Prototype.
210w ago - Last week we reviewed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for PS3, and today Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling (aka fourzerotwo) sent word that the first major Modern Warfare 2 title update is in the works.
This came in the form of a Twitter Tweet in response to a question from IRISnGEN, to quote:
"IRISnGEN: How are the fixes coming for the glitches, matchmaking, hit detection coming? Any update would be appreciated.
fourzerotwo: At the moment were on Holiday (Thanksgiving) but playing and tracking feedback for the first major title update."
So there you have it, more details to come as they are available!
