3w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Infamous Second Son on PlayStation 4.
Below are the details, to quote: Things don't go as planned for Delsin Rowe, the smug but likeable hero of Infamous Second Son. Following the catastrophic events that shook the world in the first two games, Delsin's super-powered status as a Conduit is laid bare after exposure to other superhumans.
Delsin can absorb the powers of others, and then employ them for his own devices. He has serious potential, and that immense potential was on display during the PS4 launch event here in New York City this week.
This third-person, superhero action game already looks electric running on PS4, with fluid animations and sharp bursts of light around every rain-soaked corner.
At the event, we join Delsin and his cop brother Reggie as they attempt to pass through a Department of Unified Protection (DUP) security checkpoint. Their dark, menacing uniforms stand in stark contrast with the bright yellows of warning signs that litter the scene.
But unfortunately for Delsin, things don't go as planned.
Sure enough, Delsin's spectacular abilities trigger an automated warning at the checkpoint, and the DUP descends upon him with rifles ready. This is where the first...
18w ago - Lead Designer Jaime Griesemer at Sucker Punch Productions posted up a PS4 video today spotlighting InFamous: Second Son dubbed Smoke and Mirrors for the PlayStation 4 console.
To quote: "Well, if the good ending is canon, then it's not Cole in the new game.
And if it's not Cole, it's probably not electrical powers, right? And if it's some other power source, what is it? And is that still Infamous?"
These were the questions that came up as soon as we started planning for our next game. Quite daunting, considering back then it was only my second week at Sucker Punch Productions. (That reminds me...
Hi! I'm Jaime Griesemer, the Lead Designer on Second Son.) However, the team was full of ideas. Some were what you might expect: Earth powers! Water powers! Some were less traditional: Control over birds! Car powers! The power of friendship! We accumulated a list of dozens and dozens of possibilities.
In the end, we decided that the reason electricity worked so well was because it was somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Not a familiar trope, but not too abstract. An elemental power, but a modern, urban one. As we narrowed down the list, one power source that kept coming up was "Smoke".
20w ago - Today Brian Fleming at Sucker Punch Productions posted up some video footage of conversations with creators from Infamous Second Son on PS4.
To quote: Hope everyone is enjoying their summer outdoors in the nice weather! We've been looking through our windows with envy as we continue working hard on Second Son.
Last time we checked in, we were debuting a trailer and a taste of Delsin's smoke abilities at E3... It was really exciting for us to see the response from all of you - and we were also grateful to leave E3 with an armload of nominations and awards from the media.
It all was a nice lift for us as we continue to try to make Delsin's story in Seattle into something special...
Here's something else for you to take a look at, another entry in the "Conversation with Creators" series. The crew behind these came up and interviewed us about what it's like making PS4 games, and our experiences with the DualShock 4 controller (which is great, by the way!).
In addition to myself, Sucker Punch senior staff members Nate Fox, Jaime Griesemer and Horia Dociu discuss what developing Second Son has been like, and some of the things we're each excited about...
25w ago - Today Brian Fleming at Sucker Punch Productions shared a new InFamous: Second Son PS4 / PlayStation 4 trailer video below!
To quote: So are you excited for E3? All of us at Sucker Punch are, as we've just put the finishing touches on our first LIVE gameplay demo we'll be showing off in the PlayStation booth, and our latest trailer unveiled tonight at the press conference.
The new trailer introduces Delsin Rowe's older brother, Reggie, who will accompany Delsin on his journey in Seattle.
Reggie is voiced by Travis Willingham, who interestingly is close friends in real life with Troy Baker, the voice actor for Delsin. You'll get a glimpse into Delsin and Reggie's relationship, and also see how much fun Delsin has being a superhuman, especially when using his awesome Orbital Drop maneuver shown at the end of the trailer.
Underneath the hood, we've been hard at work making use of the power of PS4 to bring Seattle and the superhuman experience to life, with everything from real-time reflections on the water to some amazing effects for Delsin's smoke powers.
But don't take our word for it; check out the trailer and come by the inFAMOUS Second Son Experience Chamber in the PlayStation Booth...
41w ago - Today Brian Fleming at Sucker Punch Productions has announced that InFamous: Second Son is coming for Sony's new PlayStation 4 / PS4 console alongside a video trailer below.
To quote: So what's new? I mean, what have you been up to? Cool. Us? Not much. Just a new character, new city, new powers, and all designed especially for the new PlayStation 4.
I hope you're excited - because we really are! Actually, for us it's probably one part excitement and one part pure terror, but that's just the way of things I guess...
But here we are at last to break the months of silence: All of us at Sucker Punch are very pleased to introduce you to Delsin Rowe, and our new title Second Son! Let's cut to the chase!
Delsin Rowe is the star of Second Son, and you probably know someone like him: A 24 year-old who is absolutely convinced he's destined for greatness; though so far that greatness has managed to elude him. He grew up just outside Seattle, where his great - if accidental - calling comes crashing into his life.
After rescuing occupants from a fiery bus wreck, he discovers that he suddenly has the ability to direct, manipulate and even transform into... Smoke. Could he have absorbed this power...
