16w ago - Sony Senior Business Development Manager Shahid Ahmad has unveiled an avalanche of Indie titles for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita at Gamescom 2013 today including N++, Volume and Hotline Miami 2 with details below.
To quote: Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Shahid Ahmad at PlayStation Europe. Strategic Content is the name of the game.
It's a fancy corporate-sounding term, but it's also a bit "black-ops" sounding, so that's cool. Our focus has been working with the indie dev community over the last year and a half, but it's not all we do. We also work with larger publishers. In this post, we'll be focusing on the indie story.
At gamescom, we've just underlined our commitment to bringing PlayStation fans the creative work of the some of the best indie talent in the world. Many of the games we've announced from our indie development partners will be making their console debut on PS4 and PS Vita. We've also got titles continuing to come to PS3.
Remember, at PlayStation, we allow the smallest indies to self-publish on the PS Store alongside the biggest publishers, we're democratic like that. We're also working hard to make things better for our partners, large or small, all the time.
Let's take a closer look at some of the titles we announced.
16w ago - Sony Digital Distribution Senior Manager Pierre Gravereau detailed PS Vita Summer Select today, which includes four new Indies that are getting PS Plus discounts.
To quote: Summer is winding down, but that doesn't mean the fun has to. To keep your summer fun going, we've selected four games launching over the next four weeks to be part of PS Vita Summer Select, our new PlayStation Store event.
PS Plus members will receive a 20% discount on each game during its launch week, and - best of all - all four games are Cross-Buy for PS Vita and PS3.
Over the next four weeks, we're shining the spotlight on some great independent developers by bringing you a new indie title each week. Check out some of the most unique gaming experiences coming to PS Vita, including Derek Yu's beloved Spelunky, and two-button fighter Divekick. The first game drops tomorrow, so prepare to spend some serious time with your PS Vita!
No need to worry if you don't have a PS Vita because all four PS Vita Summer Select titles are Cross-Buy for PS Vita and PS3! PS Plus members can take advantage of the launch week discounts on both the PS Vita and PS3 versions of each game.
24w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton shared a Transistor interview today on why Indies Matter on PlayStation 4 / PS4 below.
To quote: One of the stand-out moment at this year's PlayStation press briefing at E3, for me at least, was when eight independent developers took to the stage to show off their PS4 titles.
As Adam Boyes explained following the show, indie games are a key part of what makes PS4 such a special platform, and it was a landmark moment seeing these fantastic teams sharing the limelight with AAA titles such as Assassin's Creed IV and Final Fantasy XV.
Leading them out were Greg Kasavin and Amir Rao of Supergiant Games, who announced that Transistor, their bewitchingly beautiful follow-up to smash hit action RPG Bastion, will be debuting on PS4 when development wraps up in 2014.
I caught up with Greg on the showfloor the following day to pick his brains about the role of indies on our new platform, and to find out a little more about Transistor.
PlayStation.Blog: Supergiant started out just a few years ago in 2009 as a humble developer with just two staff members (it's now up to 10). Fast forward to 2013 and you're presenting your new game onstage at the PlayStation E3 press conference. That must feel surreal...
