PlayStation Now Beta Game Loading Times Leaked, New Improvements

50°
27w ago - Some PlayStation Now Beta game loading times have been leaked from an anonymous participant and have since been compared to the previous phase of testing with details below.

To quote from DualShockers (linked above): "Back in February a reader that wished to remain anonymous sent us a list of the loading times of all the games that were available in the first phase of the beta of PlayStation Now.

The beta has now moved on to the second phase, with a whole lot of new games available and even some returning ones. The same reader took it upon himself to clock the loading times again using the same internet connection and shared them with us.

Like last time, each timing in the list below is from the launch of the game to the splash screen. We were provided a video as evidence, but we were asked not to publish it to protect the tipster’s identity (and account).

Between parenthesis you can also see the loading times of the returning games in the first phase of the beta, for comparison’s sake.

Current PlayStation Now Beta List:

  • Shadow of the Colossus - 46.72 (old time: 53.98)
  • WipeOut HD - 57.19
  • Dead Nation - 40.05
  • PixelJunk Monsters - 39.90

Sony Announces Improvements for PlayStation Network Store

350°
280w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) have announced that they will be making many improvements to the PlayStation Network Store.

They stated they will be improving the digital quality of the games that are soon to be arriving on the store, to quote:

For the few years the store has been online, it has been in a huge competition with the 360's version of PSN, XBLA.

Items for the PSP like songs will be better quality when downloaded from your PC. The PSN Store sees games such as Fat Princess coming soon and with a huge range of PS one originals also on their way, Sony are putting their all into the PlayStation for the moment.

Despite having over 200 full games already on the network, Sony are planning to expand that to around 300 by the end of the year.

It is also rumored that Sony have secured exclusivity for DLC content for upcoming games. Xbox Live needs to watch their backs for the moment.

287w ago - Microsoft is gearing up to debut what it referred to as major improvements for Windows 8, designed to take file access in branch offices to the next level.

Even if Windows 7 is still in pre-RC stage, with the Escrow for the Win 7 Release Candidate, Build 7077, out the door, Microsoft has already confirmed that it is looking past the next iteration of Windows.

The focus on branch office scenarios related to file access simply comes to offer official confirmation that the Redmond company's strategy for Windows client and server platforms stretches well over Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, even though the two operating system releases are yet to be finalized.

"For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being worked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements.

We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices," the Redmond company revealed in a job posting (via [Register or Login to view links]).
