Per Ro Hernandez (PLAYSTATION Store Team) via PS Blog today:

The last time I posted it was regarding our special E3 section on the PlayStation Store. This time around I wanted to tell you about a new offering that you’ll see tomorrow.

In addition to all the free themes you’ve already been getting and will continue to get on the PlayStation Store now, you’ll have the option to upgrade and purchase premium themes to customize the look of your PS3’s XMB.

We have linked up with a few partners, Smobile & Disruptive Media Publishers, to distribute premium themes from PlayStation Network.

They have content offerings that range in type from NCAA College licenses to beauties on the beach to original cartoons and anime. These themes were created specifically for the PS3 and have special backgrounds, XMB icons and, in some cases, sounds.

We have created a new “Premium Themes” section under Themes & Wallpapers ... More »

Let’s face it. The number one reason you turn on your XBox 360 is for the games, and the team creating the New XBox Experience certainly didn’t forget about that. This week we wanted to share with you what the Game Store will look like later this fall when the New XBox Experience launches.

Today, when you look at a particular game in the Game Store you get a pretty basic list of information: name of the game or piece of content, ESRB rating, price and a short explanation of what it is. That information is really useful, but with the New XBox Experience we thought we could give you even more.

When you go into the new Games Store this fall, you will be able to check out screenshots of the game, watch trailers and read the back-of-the-box description like you are shopping at a retail store. The Game Store will also display every available download for the game you are looking for.

Let’s say you are looking at “Gears of War 2,” you will ha... More »

According to GameSpy, Italian magazine The Game Machine has revealed new details about the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV as follows:

- The replay editor can record, save and edit the last 30 seconds of the game. Once you have saved your video, you can open another piece of internal software in order to change the point of view and add special effects.

The montage editor allows you to edit various replays into a single sequence, add audio tracks from the Official soundtrack of the game and add effects like transition from a sequence to another. You can then upload and publish your videos to the Rockstar Social Club to share them with the world.

- The GPS map has been improved. You can now point and click with the mouse on a specific location and make notes or add images to personalize it.

- Improved streaming will be possible with the power of todays processors. If you have s... More »

The Golden age of video games saw its height in the 16 bit era where SNES and The Genesis were in a console war over who had the best games. SNES came out on top which we discuss in numerous articles on Old-Wizard, and stood as the most creative moment in the video game mediums small history. Where has the Golden age gone?

It has gone to games that lack everything great about those old NES and SNES games. In this list, we will go through the reasons why the games of the modern era lack the power of the older generation. We could only hope that modern game makers realize the creative insurgence of the 16 bit era and try to recapture it for the next generation.

10. No good instruction manuals

This may seem like a petty reason not to like modern games, but it meant a lot to us retro video gamers who wanted to experience the game beyond the screen. New instruction manuals to modern games offer no story lines like the old games that made us pre... More »

French site PSPGen (linked above) is reporting to have received PSP Firmware 5.0 BETA, which is expected to have a new browser and direct access to the PlayStation store, in order to test and adapt games in response to it.

A rough translation: This BETA version of firmware 5.00 bringing no change in visual XMB and it is therefore difficult to know what new features have been added at first glance.

We have therefore sought a little further and we eventually find that this new firmware has three major innovations including:

- Access to PlayStation Network
Players will be able to connect to PSN Sony. The future games developed on the PSP will allow players to compete via the PSN. How? This is still a bit dark because the firmware development contains only the bare minimum that the developers need and thus the XMB is "light" icons deemed useless to them by Sony (As the menu research, for example ...)

Beyond this certainty, this m... More »
