PS Plus: Ibb and Obb, Resogun and Contrast Free for Members

To quote: PlayStation 4 is only a work week away! Once a shiny new PS4 is acquired, PS Plus members will be able to download both Contrast and Resogun for free. Resogun is an intense new shoot-em-up from Housemarque, the talented folks behind Super Stardust, Outland and Dead Nation.

If you're someone that likes to get to the top of a leaderboard, Resogun should be right up your alley. In a completely different vein, Contrast is a beautiful puzzle-platformer where you control a little girl's imaginary friend that can shift from the 3D world into the 2D realm of shadows.

Ibb & Obb on PSN Updated, Enhanced Features and Performance

44w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser announced today alongside a video that Ibb and Obb on PSN has been updated complete with enhanced features and performance.

To quote: It's been about a month since we launched Ibb & Obb, our two-player, cooperative puzzle platformer.

Since the launch, we've been working on a patch to fix some bugs that players found, but also to add some features based on the feedback we got.

The most requested feature was to have indicators showing where players are when they fly off screen. Those are now in, along with d-pad support for those of you who prefer that to the analog stick. Also, we managed to improve general performance quite a bit - now everything runs at 60 FPS in full HD, with anti aliasing on.

For us, some of the most interesting things of the last month are the Let's Play videos that pop up. Often made by players that dive into the game without having played it before or knowing much about it. From a game designer point of view these videos are extremely useful.

We've seen a lot of people play during development, but it's different when players know the game is still unfinished or when they can ask you questions directly. The Let's Play videos feel more real. They show the published product and are often recorded...
 

Video: Ibb & Obb Tag-Team Sony PlayStation Network Today

50w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser shared a video announcing that Ibb and Obb tag-team Sony's PlayStation Network today.

To quote: In October, we introduced you to ibb & obb. Today it launches exclusively on PSN as part of PlayStation Store PLAY.

Four years ago, we founded [Register or Login to view links] with the intention to make our two-player, double-gravity prototype into a full game. We teamed up with [Register or Login to view links] for the development and started production.

The game wouldn't be the same without Kettel's warm melodies and Tomasz Kaye's lentil centric sound effects. Five guest artists decorated the secret levels and many others helped in all kinds of ways. PlayStation showed a lot of commitment and patience, and guided us through the whole process. Thank you all!

From day one we built the design around the interaction between the two players. ibb & obb is all about the joy of exploring a new world and solving puzzles together.





I hope many of you will enjoy playing ibb & obb at home with a friend, brother, sister, parent, significant other, grandchild or online with a random gamer or PSN friend.

Video: Ibb and Obb: Development Prototypes on Game's Evolution

69w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser has shared some video footage today of Ibb and Obb spotlighting the development prototypes documenting the game's evolution below.

To quote: We're almost there. ibb and obb is nearing completion and we hope to release the game on PSN this May.

Getting to this point has been quite an adventure. Currently there are between four and ten people working on the project, but around seven years ago this all started with my graduation project and I could only dream of where it is right now.

I studied Industrial Design and always thought I would become a product designer. But over the course of my studies my interest for product design faded and at the same time it felt like something new was happening in the game industry.

It was around the time that Katamari Damacy made its first appearance on Playstation. I loved it and to me it signalled a start of more original titles finding their way to a larger audience.





I strongly wanted to be part of this change and decided to focus my graduation project on game design.

Part of the project was to design a game concept myself. I was convinced that the best way to design games is to work with prototypes...
 

Video: Ibb and Obb: Turning PSN Upside Down Next Spring

93w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser has posted up a video trailer today introducing Ibb and Obb, which will be turning PSN upside down next Spring!

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] is a cooperative puzzle-platformer with a gravity twist that will launch on PSN next spring.

In the earliest stages of development, the game was called Brothers. Looking back at that now, it means a lot more than I thought it did.

My fondest memories of games are those that I played together with my brother or close friends. It has always surprised me how few games are really designed around two-player interaction.

With ibb and obb we've tried to do just that. The gameplay revolves around a world with two directions of gravity, but even more so it's about the interaction between the players.

All elements in the game are designed for two, ranging from the way you solve puzzles to handling enemies. For example, when one player takes out an enemy the other tries to be ready on the other side of the split to fetch the reward.





In the game you explore five worlds consisting of three levels each. Visually, the mood starts out very colorful and adventurous, slowly changing...
