47w ago - It's been just over a month since IGN confirmed PlayStation 4 developer kit updates surfaced, and today Sony VP of Home Entertainment Hiroshi Sakamoto has hinted that a PS4 (Orbis) announcement my arrive in May prior to E3 this year.
Below is the scoop, to quote: "He told Emol in response to a question about "a new announcement related to the new PlayStation," that while the news is "still a big secret," the PlayStation side of Sony, "are getting ready for it."
He of course doesn't directly refer to a "PlayStation 4" or the rumored "Orbis" internal project name. Sakamoto adds that the PlayStation team are "focused on E3," but, "the announcement could take place at that time, or maybe even before, in May."
Sounds like Sony's toying with a pre-E3 event for its next-gen console - E3 takes place on June 11 - 13 - though Mr. Sakamoto's comments are still ambiguous enough that we can't be sure. This is a company that launched three different major hardware iterations of the PlayStation 3, so anything could happen.
155w ago - Today, in an interview with the New York Times Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Kaz Hirai dropped some tantalizing hints about the PSP2.
When asked about what kind of controls the next PSP might have, Hirai gave the following answer, to quote:
"Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel, but you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you're able to use both in combination."
Hirai was also asked about reports of Sony Ericsson's PSP Go-like gaming phone, which may -or may not- be PlayStation branded.
"We don't want gamers to be asking, what's the difference between that and a PSP," said Hirai, without confirming the device's existence. "We have to come up with a message that users will understand. It would have to be a product that keeps the PlayStation's strengths intact."
Finally, Hirai expressed his belief that the increased interest in casual games will actually benefit Sony, traditionally a maker of more hardcore games. "We're seeing people who never had an interest in games join the gaming population," he explained....
175w ago - Here is one from the rumormill, blackxino (linked above) has shared a leaked image of what is purported to be the first hint that Dead or Alive 5 is coming to Sony's PS3 entertainment system.
Pictured below, the alleged DOA5 main game menu image contains an 'X' and 'O' button indicating that it is playable on the PlayStation 3 console.
However, Dead or Alive 4 was exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox 360 so needless to say until Tecmo and Team Ninja confirm this it is purely speculation at the present time.
To quote: "Look at Image! PS3 controller buttons. I just obtained this leaked image, that is all. :P Don't ask me how I got it, let's just say through the hard work on this idea site.
Too bad I'm not a journalist so therefore I can't contact Tecmo Koei about this. If you are a journalist, do me (us readers) a favor and get in touch with PR of TK-A/TKE about this image.
The main thing is if Tecmo Koei sees the hit about this, they would consider announcing DOA 5 at Tokyo Game Show 2010 because people seem to be interested in DOA 5 even after it's long absence for 4 years."
179w ago - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was released this past June for PSP, however, despite Kojima Productions previously ruling out a PS3 port Hideo Kojima hinted at just that in a recent interview with French video game news site JeuxVideo.
Conducted at Japan Expo, Hideo Kojima briefly commented on the possibility of porting Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker from the PSP to the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.
To quote: "I can not say I'll do a direct conversion of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on Playstation 3.
However, this game was a challenge in terms of its development on the PSP for me and I probably will preserve the base of it. And if I had to port it to another console, I would add even more depth to the story."
182w ago - The Electronic Entertainment Expo is set to begin this week, and according to Sony's PlayStation E3 2010 site they are set to reveal new hardware at this year's conference.
Excluding the PlayStation Motion Controller, it is more likely a PSP2 may be revealed this year over the recently rumored PS4.
To quote: "According to the official Sony E3 site, Sony will showcase new hardware on Tuesday: E3 2010 is coming! Meet us here to see what awesome games and hardware is being revealed!
While some speculate a PSP2 announcement from Sony is a possibility, the best bet right now would be another revision of the current PSP hardware with a design more akin to that of the PSPGo or the hardware simply being the Move controller.
Sony is set to take stage at E3 in just over 2-days, so we'll know for certain then."
