Latest Minecraft PS3 Update Adds Uncharted, Killzone, Heavy Rain Skins

50°
16w ago - Mojang's Owen Hill is here with details on the latest Minecraft PS3 update, which adds Uncharted, Killzone and Heavy Rain skins.

To quote: Hi everyone. The latest update to Minecraft PS3 brings Emeralds, Ender Chests, Zombie Villagers, and more. Cauldrons fill up in the rain! Wolf collars can be dyed! Pigs drop more porkchops! The list goes on.

Two skin packs are also available. Skin Pack 1 is perfect for hardcore PlayStation fans. It brings a bunch of Sony stalwarts including Nathan "Uncharted" Drake, folks from Heavy Rain, some Killzone dudes, and Sly Cooper.

The Battle and Beasts skin pack includes koalas, a Cleopatra look-a-like, various cavemen, and an octopus. It's the most eclectic pack currently available.

For those of you who aren't content with the classic Minecraft styling, two new texture packs are also launching. The City Texture pack is perfect for the modernist Minecrafter; it'll give your creations a more clean, clinical look. The Plastic Texture pack makes things look a lot more, erm, plasticy.

That's it for now. Have fun!

Beyond: Two Souls on PlayStation 3: It's Not Another Heavy Rain

400°
42w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements shared a fresh video today announcing that Beyond: Two Souls on PlayStation 3 is not another Heavy Rain.

To quote: At first glance, Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain seem to have more in common than not. Both games focus on intricate narratives and deep character development, highlighted by cutting-edge performance capture and dazzling digital sets.

But on closer examination, Beyond: Two Souls, which launches exclusively for PS3 on October 8th, is a wholly unique creation with no obvious analogue.

For one, its sweeping story focuses on one character instead of four. Beyond: Two Souls spans an entire lifetime as it follows the trials of protagonist Jodie Holmes (Ellen Page) and her constant companion, Aiden - an invisible entity with incredible powers. For another, it features a radically different, more direct play style compared to Heavy Rain.

In our new interview, [Register or Login to view links] co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere discusses the differences between the team's two latest projects, and the daunting scope of the story. Listen in for his insight on the game design process, and how Quantic Dream infused player-driven choices into a story-driven experience.

122w ago - Irrational Games Evangelist Ratana Huot has posted up some videos today spotlighting BioShock Infinite's PS3 heavy hitters: The Boys of Silence below!

To quote: If you've been watching [Register or Login to view links], you may have seen a series of videos debuting BioShock Infinite's unique antagonists you'll be facing in the city of Columbia - we've dubbed them Heavy Hitters.

We wanted to make sure PlayStation.Blog readers were looped in on the fun as well, so today we're stopping by to debut the third installment of Heavy Hitters. It's time to cover your ears: Here come the Boys of Silence!

But the third installment of Heavy Hitters may surprise you. Instead of using brute force and heavy artillery, these guys only use sound - it's all they'll need to get your adrenaline flowing as you check your ammo and run for cover.

When encountering the Boys of Silence, Booker and Elizabeth can choose to sneak past these sentries or engage them directly to silence them forever. Just don't give them a chance to summon reinforcements...

In case you missed the other videos in our Heavy Hitters...

Video: Wheels of Destruction: Class Warfare - Heavy Trailer Out

100°
126w ago - Today Lead Designer Peter Porai-Koshits has shared some video footage of the new Wheels of Destruction: Class Warfare Heavy Trailer below for fans.

To quote: Team warfare has been an element of great multiplayer games for a long time.

But as soon as we introduced team multiplayer combat to Wheels of Destruction, we realized that players want to feel like an individual, a dynamic asset on the battlefield, which led us to creating a tried-and-true class-based system. With Wheels of Destruction, our five distinct vehicle classes cater to different multiplayer strategies.

Earlier in the development cycle, considered expanding this concept further still with unique characters. However, that idea ended up on the cutting-room floor for several reasons. When presented with too many choices, players tend to fall into an "analysis paralysis" worse than prom night. Too much time spent "mini-maxing" skill trees can take the player out of what we want to be a fast-paced experience.

You can see the Heavy class in action in our new video below.

When you're playing a single-player game, it's natural to want to make your character your own. But with Wheels of Destruction we're interested in creating...
