Rockstar says that its next-gen Midnight Club, set in Los Angeles, is the company's "most ambitious project to date."
Yeah GTA IV looks great, but we can see where Rockstar is coming from: Midnight Club LA houses a very impressive, completely seamless recreation of LA-la-land, full of familiar places and potentially crawling with online racers.
We'd hate to think how the San Diego studio managed to map such a gigantic landmass (and make it look prettier than GTA IV), and our Rockstar spokesman seemed similarly taken back. "The fact that they live two hours away probably helped," he said.
Read all about it in our first Midnight Club eyes-on. "It's just the beginning," Rockstar promises.
Take-Two Interactive's financial fortunes have run hot and cold since the announcement of a delay for Grand Theft Auto IV. Disappointment at the publisher's biggest game being pushed back into next year was offset partially by news that Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 had been cleared for a North American release next month and an avalanche of glowing reviews for 2K Boston's BioShock.
Today the publisher announced its financial results for its fiscal third quarter, which ended just days before the GTAIV delay started the stock's roller coaster ride. For the three months ended July 31, Take-Two posted revenues of $206 million, down from $241 million from the same period of 2006. However, the company's losses narrowed nearly as much, with Take-Two losing nearly $59 million for the quarter, a significantly better showing than the $91 million it lost in last year's third quarter.
As for why sales were down, Take-Two blamed it on tough comparisons against the previous ... More »
Following its extremely positive reception, BioShock is being eyed as a major new franchise by 2K Games parent Take-Two - which is already talking sequels.
The publisher's recently spoke of the possibility of hitting "roughly" a new BioShock release every two years.
"I would say, probably, roughly an every-two-year schedule would be optimal. And if you look historically, that has been largely the case with GTA, and I'd expect we'd apply roughly the same strategy to BioShock because BioShock is shaping up to be a very important franchise," Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said in a conference call with analysts.
This year's Fall is very, very crowded. Even with titles such as GTA 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 slipping into 2008, the remaining months of 2007 will undoubtedly burn a whole through gamers' pockets. With that in mind, PSU's compiled a Top 5 list of titles that you absolutely must get before the year is out. Do some more chores, work overtime, demand them for Christmas or simply stop buying your girlfriend gifts (a last resort, of course).

Outspoken anti-games lawyer Jack Thompson has decided that a representation of a 2nd amendment lawyer in GTA IV is a mocking version of him. He has declared that if the representation is not removed he will attempt to block the release of the game.
Excerpt from GamePolitics: 'The showcasing play of the game to Game Informer revealed that the first killing mission of the hero of the game, Niko, is to kill a certain lawyer. When Niko comes into this lawyer's office, having used subterfuge to do so, Niko pulls a gun on the lawyer who says, that the firm supports the second amendment and that 'Guns don't kill people. Video games do.'

Like its spin-off Final Fantasy XIII: Versus, the "true" Final Fantasy XIII seemingly exists more as a story and FMV than as a game at this point. In its defense, though, the FMV is pretty much completely jaw-dropping.
Shown only in Square Enix's TGS "closed mega theatre," the newest trailer for FFXIII has no gameplay footage whatsoever -- but it does contain a ton of new scenes and some narration to help give context to the glimpses we've seen over the past year and a half. The general noise level of the show made the narration difficult to hear, but here's what we've gathered:
Like most Final Fantasy games, XIII seems to be set in a futuristic fantasy world with aerial cities connected by mighty airships. But this world is beset by something called the "Cocoon," which appears to be ravaged by monsters -- Bahamut and Ifrit were shown, among others. To maintain the peace, or perhaps for more nefarious reasons, some people are relocated to a place called Puls... More »

This may be the Playstation site with incorrect release dates - it has been known before. But with the rumors of a big announcement for PS3 in October...
More pics and info here.
A few folks have been getting a bit... how shall we say this? "overexcited" about Grand Theft Auto IV. The latest rumour to do the rounds is that Rockstar's massively anticipated sandbox shooter will be out this very month. SPOnG can confirm that alas, this is not the case.
The rumor originates from Sony's UK PlayStation site, which bears the release date "October 2007" for the game. Needless to say, when SPOnG saw it we smelled a big, fat, hairy, bloated rat. The game has, after all, been very publicly pushed back from its original release date of Autumn this year.
We decided to put in a call to Rockstar on the off chance some development miracle has happened and were told, in no uncertain terms, "It's coming out in Spring next year." Sony's site, then, bears either old information or a straightforward admin error. While you wait for next year to roll around, sate your GTA appetite with a preview here.
Sony is launching the new Star Wars Battlefront PSP entertainment pack today. Is this going to turn the tide against the Nintendo DS, which has been outselling the PSP by 2-to-1? Not likely. It’s nice that it comes in new colors and in interesting new bundles, like the new Star Wars Battlefront bundle that is available today. It’s good that the PSP is a third lighter. But issues remain with the UMD disc format and the ease with which you can turn this device into a music and video player. The video out feature where you can take the image on the PSP and display it on a TV set is nice, but those images weren’t really meant to look nice on an HDTV. Hence, the value of that application is limited.
Here’s Sony’s information:
With the Star Wars franchise being one of the world’s most beloved, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) is excited to announce today the availability of the limited-edition Star Wars Battlefront® PSP Entertainment ... More »
