Video: Gran Turismo Does NASCAR - GT5 Prologue PS3 Trailer

215w ago - Update: Magnus of NeoGAF has now shared (below) the leaked GT5 trailer from the God of War 3 retail release.

Today Sony Product Marketing Specialist Brian Dunn has proclaimed that Gran Turismo Does NASCAR, and made available a GT5 Prologue PS3 trailer video with Polyphony Digital at the Texas Motor Speedway.

To quote: I'm sure all of you Gran Turismo fans out there remember that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue featured the Daytona oval and road course layouts.

And with Gran Turismo 5's announce trailer at E3 last year, you saw that NASCAR stock cars would be making their debut in Gran Turismo 5, adding yet another official race sanctioning body to the Gran Turismo lineup.

Rest assured that Kazunori Yamauchi and the hard-working team at Polyphony Digital are putting as much attention to detail into recreating the NASCAR stock cars, tracks and experience as they do with every other element that goes into the Gran Turismo series.

In addition to visiting the racing team to photo shoot and sound-record their vehicles, Kazunori and crew visited their first...

Tanner Foust Challenges GT5 Prologue Gamers

50°
286w ago - Professional Drift and Rally Driver Tanner Foust has challenged GT5 Prologue gamers to their best lap times in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in the online race event "Tanner Foust Racing Competition." The first place winner and a guest will get to see Tanner at the Red Bull Drifting World Championships in the VIP section.

To quote: Hey, PlayStation Blog readers. Some of you may know who I am. If you do, that's great. If you don't, let me introduce myself. My name is Tanner Foust, and I'm a professional drift, rally, and ice racer. You may have seen me in a recent Play the Pros video on PSN, where I took on some Gran Turismo fans at X Games 14 this past summer before competing in the Rally Super Special race.

You may have even seen me on ESPN2 or the Speed Channel, or seen my work as a stunt driver in the Bourne Ultimatum, Dukes of Hazzard, or The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

Hot on the heels of my 2nd place finish at the Formula DRIFT Pro Championship finals earlier this month and clinching the 2008 Formula Drift Championship, I'm gearing up to represent the US against the best drifters in the world at Red Bull Drifting World Championships on November 15-16. I'll be competing with 31 of the...

Why I Hate GT5 Prologue for PS3!

400°
312w ago - I was pissed at Gran Turismo 5 Prologue this morning. Great game and all that, but when you spend ages trying to perfect a lap time only to find out that you're doing it TOO PERFECT to compete with the top guys, something's gone wrong.

So I woke up a little earlier than usual this morning. It's 5:46am and I'm done with sleep so, with two hours to kill, I contemplate my options. I could overdose on toast, subject myself to a bit of GMTV or, because it was far too early in the morning for you know what, I could play some games. (Or you could write some news maybe? - Ed)

Games got my vote. PS3, GT5 Prologue - I thought I'd see if I could post some top times in the Time Trial mode. Call me a geek, but I like online time trials, especially when I know I'm good enough at a game to crawl into around the top 30 in the online rankings.

I'd just bought the Nissan GT-R '07, so I took it out onto the High Speed Ring course that comes new in the PAL version of the game.

I hit the course, all driving aids turned off (because driving aids are for girls), and put in a time of 1:14 - not bad. But I know I can do better. I continue lapping round until I pull my time down to within the 1:12s. That got me into the top 100, but I want top 20.

Bettering a 1:12 time isn't easy. That's the...

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - Holy Long Wait Time, Batman!

200°
313w ago - I got my copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the PS3 today. I've been anxiously awaiting this title for a while, as I've been a huge fan of the series and racing games in general.

So when I put the game in my PS3, I was more than ready to race. Here's a breakdown of what happened:

-9:24pm - Loaded the game, started the install process
-9:37pm - Install ended (13 minutes total, using 5349MB)
-9:38pm - Began downloading the game update
-9:42pm - Error occurred during download, had to start over
-9:44pm - Began downloading the game update... again
-9:51pm - Update finished, needed to hold the PS button to quit the game
-9:52pm - Restart game, going through menus
-9:53pm - Begin car shopping (you have to buy a car first with the 35k credits you have before you can race)
-10:01pm - Bought car after looking for a while for what I can afford (settled on Mazda RX-8)
-10:07pm - Finally finished first single player race (2:52 total race time)

So as you can see, if you get the Blu-Ray version of the game, it's going to take you an absurd amount of time sitting there doing nothing waiting to actually play the game. Seriously, this is just ridiculous. It took 40 minutes before I was able to actually play the game.

I'm...
