For gamers, the new year usually begins after mid-November and this year’s no different; pretty much all major console exclusives have been released.
So, this is the first time that we can actually look back at 2008 and see which console had the best exclusives for the year - the PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii.
To do this, I decided to tally up the Metascore ratings (as of 11/20) for what are arguably the top ten exclusives for each console. Games that are available on PC and only one console are on the list as well (World of Goo and Left 4 Dead are two examples). So let’s dive right in to those potentially forum-rioting numbers:
Nintendo Wii: 1. No More Heroes - 83%
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 94%
3. Mario Kart Wii - 82%
4. Wii Fit - 80%
5. Wario Land: Shake it! - 78%
6. Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility - 64%
7. World of Goo - 95%
8. Wii Music - 63%
9. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the N... More »
Recently Jeff Staples posted on his blog some text in Japanese, which contained some Gran Turismo 5 details.
He recently got the chance to visit Polyphony’s studio in Tokyo and got some really interesting information. The general post highlighted the advances of the GT title, as well as gave us a lot of insider information as to how the game is made, about the staff and developers and much more. We also get to see some of the vehicles coming to GT5.
Mercedes C63 AMG
From this diagram, we see what looks like a Mercedes C63 AMG. However I do not see the front fog light in the model, as you would see in the real C63 AMG. However, the grill and bumper flare kits look very much like the C63’s. Check out the real one below and tell us what you think.

We can see the GT team taking lots of photo shots, as well as ... More »
One lucky Gran Turismo fan recently had a chance to actually talk to Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi about all things Gran Turismo. Of course, one of the things that came up was Gran Turismo 5's release date.
When told about fans expecting the game to be released in 2010, Yamauchi laughed it off and said that the game will be released sooner than expected. As vague as ever, but it does raise hopes of a possible 2009 release.
Yamauchi also gave out a few more details about the game, including the current status of damage implementation. Apparently, some companies like Porsche (apparently, their contracts with other game makers have ended so Polyphony Digital is negotiating with them) have already given Polyphony Digital the go signal to total their cars, but other manufacturers (Yamauchi mentioned Ferrari) are being stubborn about it, even for minor side mirror damage stuff.
Yamauchi also confirmed that the "rubber band effect"... More »

According to issa3032: Install the optional Firmware 2.43 update, and the system actually seems more resposive. Anyway, I booted up Gran Turismo 5 and was browsing around the options when I noticed something interesting: When you uncheck the "Disable Advanced Downloading" it asks you to "accept" or "decline".
In the past you used to get a warning message saying this feature would be enabled in a future firmware update. Well this message no longer pops up. I guess now we know what the firmware update did in addition to speeding up the XMB.
Note to others: "Unlike previous updates, firmware v2.43 is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to install the update."
Per Grace Chen (Senior Manager, PLAYSTATION Store) today:
