Video: DC Universe Online PS3 GamesCom Update Arrives

208w ago - SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has posted up a video from this year's GamesCom showcasing DC Universe Online for Sony's PS3 entertainment system.

To quote: While thousands of eager gamers ran around the show floor at gamescom, behind closed doors, members of the press were treated to demonstrations of some of the hottest upcoming PlayStation 3 games.

One of these was DC Universe Online and I was able to attend and get my first eyes-on of the superhero action MMO running on a PS3.

We jumped straight into a quest, with the developer playing the game choosing a hero based loosely on Batman, with high agility, enabling him to run up walls, a powerful sword and a suitably brooding outfit and cape.

He had been sent by The Caped Crusader to rescue Robin from the clutches of Harley Quinn. First, he had to fight off a horde of cronies using melee and special attacks, including a force field that imprisons foes in a sphere that can be picked up and thrown around the world.





This demonstrated the realistic physics that can be used to your advantage and sets the game apart from other MMOs. One arena was littered with giant balls, in keeping with The Joker's maniacal playground environments. With skilful attacks, you can...
 

Video: SOCOM 4 GamesCom Floor PS3 Demo Video Tour

208w ago - Zipper Interactive Sr. Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has shared a PS3 demo video tour today of SOCOM 4 from the GamesCom floor.

To quote: It's a proud week for us here at [Register or Login to view links] as tomorrow marks the 8th birthday of our first-ever PS2 game and the title that started a huge multimillion-selling franchise, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs. To celebrate the eight-year mark, we've put together a special video for our fans.

In it, you'll experience the gamescom 2010 SOCOM 4 demo in its entirety with commentary by lead designer, Travis Steiner. This is the first time anywhere that you'll see the gamescom demo played all the way through and in high-definition, making it a "must watch" for anyone even remotely interested in what we have in store for 2011.

Video: inFamous 2 PS3 Interview with Bruce Oberg at GamesCom

209w ago - SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has shared an inFamous 2 PS3 interview today with Bruce Oberg and a video tour of the PlayStation booth at GamesCom 2010.

To quote: After the SCEE gamescom press conference, we had an event where press and developers could mingle, overindulge and try out the latest PlayStation Games.

I got talking to Bruce Oberg, co-founder of [Register or Login to view links] and development lead in inFAMOUS 2; without further ado, here's what we said.

From what I've seen, you seem to have been working particularly hard on the game's graphics. Has this been an area in which you've placed special focus?

We've tried to leave no stone unturned in just about every facet of the game and the graphics have been helped by us having another year of learning about Playstation 3 under our belt. We're able to use more of the cell processors now than we finished the first inFamous, so we can have more characters on-screen, more complicated shaders, and much greater layering.

It basically means we're able to up the amplitude when it comes to graphics and the number of breakable objects you see on the screen.

The characters, in particular, look a lot better as we have learned things like light...

To quote: "You may have read my impressions of Killzone 3's multiplayer mode earlier in the week, but why listen to what I think?

As previously reported, Killzone 3 will include a mode that will support Sony's plunge into 3D gaming. The Killzone 3 3D mode will be optional, and will require a 3D ready TV with 3D glasses.
