16w ago - Atomicom Managing Director Gary Nichols officially revealed Switch Galaxy Ultra for both PS4 and PlayStation Vita platforms at Gamescom 2013 today.
To quote: It only seems like just a couple of weeks ago that we were writing our guest post about the release of Switch Galaxy for PlayStation Mobile, and already we're back with our announcement for Switch Galaxy Ultra.
The reviews we saw for Switch Galaxy blew us away, with many 9/10 scores and, of course, the awesome player feedback we received about the game really helped us get energized to improve on our PSM title as we knew there was a lot more we could do with it.
Due to the amazing reviews the Switch Galaxy received, we were invited to meet with the team at SCEE to discuss what our future plans were. As we still had lots of ideas (and, more importantly, the energy) for Switch Galaxy, we wanted to carry on working on it and try to get a native release out ourselves on PS Vita. Luckily they offered to support us in that.
So, we set about producing some new assets, redesigning elements such as the game HUD and front-end, adding new features and improving on some of the areas we felt could be made better.
40w ago - Atomicom Managing Director Gary Nichols showcased Switch Galaxy today for PlayStation Mobile with details below.
To quote: As with many games industry developers of a certain age I grew up with the classics: Atari 2600, Commodore 64 etc. with my very first gaming experience being on a Binatone with Pong.
One game that was always a favourite of mine was Dodge-em from the Atari 2600 which I would play for hours and hours. It was so frustrating at times, especially when it got quick, but that made me really want to beat it even more.
Back in 2011 we'd just finished development of Bang Bang Racing and while thinking what we should do next, I thought about creating a 3D title that paid homage to Dodge-em.
So we started work and soon came to the conclusion that it was going to take way too long and be too difficult to make it enjoyable in full 3D, so we simply just got rid of the turns and made it straight instead.
We ended up with Switch, a mobile game that has gone on to be downloaded 1.7m times so far, which was so awesome considering it was a very simple endless runner that took six weeks to make. Even though it was simple, people loved it...
56w ago - Targem Games Creative Director Alexey Chestnykh has shared a video today inviting fans to wage intergalactic warfare in Planets Under Attack today on PSN.
To quote: People often want to know where the ideas for a game come from. Let me tell you how Planets Under Attack, the latest from Targem Games, was invented and what it turned out to be.
It all started with this hand-drawn picture of an enormous gun, covering half of the planet.
Some sketches that followed were incredibly helpful when it came down to choosing the setting, since they had been done in this nice cartoonish style.
We decided to create a world that would be like a cross-section of sci-fi, with humans, robots, aliens and all that. Then we crafted an entertaining story that played up the usual sci-fi clichés. But more than anything, we wanted the game to be fun.
The end result is a game called Planets Under Attack - a concise and dynamic strategy game. It's easy to play, but hard to master. The game's trailer distinctly defines all these features.
Let's talk a little bit about the races presented in the game. First, we have Humans - their goal is to profit at all costs....
