While my experience with the XBox 360 version of Bethesda's Fallout 3 was rather pleasant, PlayStation 3 owners don't seem to be getting on nearly as well.

Complaints of choppy frame rates and graphical glitches are peppered throughout Bethesda's forums for the game, with others complaining about random lock ups and various other issues - textures not loading, significant slowdown etc.

Two major bugs have already been addressed by Bethesda in the forums, one concerning the game freezing during the GOAT test earlier in the game, and another dealing with the game pausing whenever a PS3 notification occurs. The first issue can apparently be solved by saving and restarting, while they suggest turning off notifications in the XMB for the second.

We've contacted Bethesda regarding these issues, specifically inquiring as to the possibility of a patch to fix problem with the PS3 versio... More »

The latest Sony PS3 Firmware 2.50 update added many great features to all of our Playstation 3’s, but we are also getting many reports of problems as well. The main problem with the latest update seems to be related to the DivX VOD addition.

Some users have video displaying in black and white, although it worked fine before updating. You can read some of the problems users have reported below, feel free to share a comment once reading.

If you have video on your HD don’t get if you have an SD TV unless you like black and white, I found out the hard way.

I downloaded 2.50 yesterday, I also have same problem with my videos showing only in black and white plus small difference in sound. I really hope that Sony fixes this bug fast, because this is n... More »

Just over two weeks ago there were reports of WipEout HD crashing/freezing and some partially-working DIY-style fixes.

The good news is, WipEout HD has now been patched in order to fix the common game freezing problem among PSN users with over 50 friends.

Currently this patch is available for the European version only, though it is expected to go live in America very soon. The patch notes, which can be retrieved from within the game, state that your save file needs to be deleted after the patch has been installed for the fix to take affect.

This means your lap times, team loyalties and other single-player stats and options will be lost. Your trophies and leaderboard scores, however, won't be lost.

If you've been sidestepping the issue by playing whilst signed out of the PSN, starting again is no doubt quite an annoyance. Don't... More »

Several have reported on the official UK PlayStation forum (linked above) that they are experiencing random crashes and freezing issues with the recently released WipEout HD.

Based on user feedback thus far, the bug appears to be affecting only those with too many people (50+) on their PSN friends list. SCEE Community Team Leader MusterBuster stated that Sony is looking into the issue, however, some are reporting possible "fixes" until an official update or patch is made available.

To quote lowrider007: Well, for me anyway, I can now play signed into PSN and no freezes, I updated my firmware to 2.43 and it seems to be fine now, I've had it on for about 3 hours now and it's the first time it hasn't locked up at all, strange that should fix my issue, perhaps their was a glitch in my last FW update for something.

To quote D-E-V-I-L-08: Listen carfully...

A PlayStation Home BETA participant with access to a restricted PlayStation Forums thread has passed along a potential release month -- October -- for the next major PlayStation 3 firmware update (v2.50), PS3 Fanboy reports.

The date was suggested by Home manager "TedTheDog" who clarified, "late October is my guess." The update will supposedly include a bug fix for freezing and network errors currently affecting Home users.

Ted (just "Ted" is okay, right?) also hints that Home v1.00 could coincide with firmware v2.50's release -- Home is currently at v0.98.

Common sense, while not always a part of Sony's repertoire, tells us that Home 1.0 is the version that goes public -- we'll see.

If you’re one of the people experiencing the freezing problem in Ninja Gaiden II since the last title update was released, we have the temporary fix for you! According to a majority of the people having this problem, you can play Ninja Gaiden II without any problems by deleting your hard drive’s cache and playing the game offline. It might take some time for Tecmo and Microsoft to come up with a patch, so this solution might help you.

By deleting your game cache in your hard drive, all of your game updates will be erased, forcing you to download them again the next time you sign into XBOX Live. Here’s how to delete your game cache:

Please be reminded that once you do this, you won’t be able to play the Mission Modes while you’re offline with your game cache being cleared!

- Go to the system blade and Select MEMORY

- Press Y and then press X, X, LB, RB, X, X. A confirmation message will appear asking you if you want to perfor... More »

On July 25th Microsoft released Ninja Gaiden 2 DLC that included a Mission Mode for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Due to reported achievement bugs and freezing issues this download was removed from Xbox Live on the same day it was released. The content reappeared on July 30th along with a system update that was supposed to fix the previously reported issues.

Since the system update, gamers (including those of us in the IGN offices) have still experienced reoccurring freezing issues during cutscenes which render the game unplayable. Today we received an official response from Microsoft regarding the issue:

Microsoft is aware of the issues that players are experiencing with the title update to "Ninja Gaiden II" and are currently working to resolve them with Tecmo/Team Ninja. Please stay tuned for a new update. We thank you for your patience!

What can gamers do right now to continue playing the title? Microsoft recommends that players clear their Xbox ... More »

Computer giants Microsoft are facing a £500 million ($990 million) repair bill after their Xbox Elite consoles were hit by the notorious "red ring of death".

The console was originally thought to be immune from the problem, which permanently freezes the unit after a ring of green lights on the power control button turn red.

Now, hundreds of angry owners are sending back their £290 consoles, which are being shipped to Germany for repair. But the fault remains a mystery.

Jamie King, 16, from Gomshall, Surrey, said: "I got my Xbox in September and it packed up eight months later in June. First, it kept freezing, then it developed the red ring of death."

In a statement, Microsoft simply said: "The majority of Xbox 360 owners enjoy a great experience with their console. "Anyone with a problem should call Xbox customer service."

Last year, the company had to recall 230,000 Xbox steering wheels worldwide after comp... More »
